I wish the celebrant had directed the mourners on entering and leaving the crematorium. The immediate family was supposed to be following the coffin in and Polly was supposed to place a rose on the coffin before leading everyone out but unfortunately neither of these requests were organised which ended up in confusion

Take time to ensure funeral is appropriate for your needs.

Explain what needs to happen and when so you don’t have to worry about anything, other than saying goodbye to your loved one.

You’re allocated a key contact, or you can request someone if you know who you want. Our person even conducted the service for us as we wanted someone who had met the deceased in person before.

Friendly, patient and compassionate throughout. Simon was willing to listen, giving options and being very responsive. He also addressed all the difficult steps and decisions professionally and clearly. On the day of the funeral Jon and his colleagues were highly supportive and helped guide us through a naturally difficult day. We can only thank the whole team for their help and consideration.

The service we received was excellent from the initial meeting with the funeral director through to care after the service. 

The coordination of this sad event with our services to ensure everything went well on the day was stand out. 

The team are personable, compassionate, caring and efficient and had the ability to make you feel well looked after. 

This made a day I was dreading into a memorial heartwarming occasion.

Following my first conversation with Chris (following the loss of my Husband) on a Saturday night, I encountered nothing but kindness, respect & compassion. With no experience of arranging a Funeral, & still being in a state of Shock, naturally I felt lost & anxious. I need not have worried.
Within 2 hours, my husband was safely in their care; in the Chapel of Rest. Truly a place of Peace.

From that initial conversation with Chris, & throughout my continuing & regular contact with both Johns, & the lovely, compassionate, Helen & Lucy, I knew that my husband was (literally) in such safe, kind & caring hands. He was treated with honour & respect, as an individual.

He had specifically requested that J G Fielders look after him. How glad I am that he did. All has been seamless - he could not have been better cared for, even had he been a member of their own family.

Fielders are not some remote, Corporate, business concern - they truly are a Family Business - & it shows. They are an Exemplar of what a Funeral Directors should be - 130 successful years of service to the York (& extended local areas) speaks for itself.

Nor does their care abruptly stop after the Funeral - it continues. I spoke to Mr Fielder Snr a few weeks after the (seamless & timely, Funeral) & was touched by his kindness & compassion.

In essence, throughout my loss, I have been comforted by all the kindness, compassion, guidance, calmness, professionalism, transparency, & trustworthiness afforded to me - & my late husband. I will be ensuring that when it is "my turn" - I only want to be looked after by J G Fielder & Son. I shall not hesitate to recommend you to family & friends.

In our opinion, JG Fielder & Son are the most unprofessional Company we have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Unfortunately this Company were allocated to us under a pre-paid Funeral Plan & therefore we were obliged to allow them to provide the Funeral arrangements for my Late Father. At first the Company appeared to be diligent, but this soon diminished. At our face-to-face meeting the Funeral Director didn’t seem interested in my Father’s life. He asked some very brief questions, but our answers didn’t seem to compel any genuine interest. In February they emailed us someone else’s Funeral Arrangements which we found incredibly unprofessional. Whilst they eventually acknowledged this & claimed that “no further action was required because there were no details enclosed”, the inclusion of that Client’s full name, email address & funeral wishes made it a rather blatant violation of data protection. A simple apology would have been more appropriate. They delivered my Father’s ashes in a cardboard box despite acknowledging that we had previously requested a floral scatter tube. The individual who delivered the ashes to us was the Senior Partner of the Company & his manner at the doorstep was bizarre, to say the least. We only got one word, or if we were lucky, two words from Mr Fielder. It does not surprise me in the slightest that there is another negative review on the ‘Yell’ website regarding the exact same issue. They offered a replacement scattertube, but months after the ashes had already been scattered. The emails I received from Chris Fielder I felt were rather harassing & discourteous; not at all what I would expect from a Funeral Director. These incidents all happened at a time when our family was still enduring the profound emotional agony that comes with the loss of a loved one. I simply cannot forgive them for their unprofessionalism & their lack of compassion. I therefore urge anyone who is considering entering into business with this Company to think very carefully before doing so.

The team were very kind, helpful and supportive. I was arranging the funeral as next of kin for my cousin, but I lived 120 miles away and it was all done over the phone, e-mails and electronic forms. On the day of the funeral I felt supported.

The funeral had been planned in advance by our friend, and we just carried out his wishes. Firstly, we had a meeting to discuss all requirements for the funeral, the team at fielders were helpful, efficient and friendly and helped us to make the funeral and the day itself go smoothly.

John and his team were extremely helpful and compassionate throughout the whole process. Everything ran smoothly on the day - even making allowances for three family members who chose to be pallbearers at the last minute.

I hope to not use their services again too soon but I will not hesitate to contact them again when the time comes.
