About Us
Formerly an Ilkeston Co-op Funeral Service branch, this home was incorporated by the A W Lymn group in 2003, and then moved next door to a refurbished premises in 2009 and given the title Barton House.
The premises offer a large reception area, two visiting rooms, a private arranging office and there is off-street parking available.
Kevin Hall is the area manager and the office is run by funeral director Fiona Hall.
The office opening times are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, but an appointment can be scheduled by calling at any time day or night, seven days a week.
The branch covers all of Spondon and its surrounding area including Alvaston, Borrowash, Chaddesden, Draycott, Elvaston, Oakwood, Ockbrook, Risley and beyond.
A W Lymn is a family owned business since its establishment in 1907 and is currently owned by Jackie, Matthew and Nigel Lymn Rose.

I contacted Fiona at Lymns in Spondon after an online search to organise my mum’s funeral. I found that A.W. Lymn’s online brochure was very informative and reassuring, at a time that can be very overwhelming. Also my sister, who doesn’t live locally, was able to be involved in any choices made.
Fiona could not have been more helpful and compassionate and she understood what we as a family wanted for my mum. She kept us fully informed at every stage and took time to clarify all of the arrangements. I cannot thank Fiona enough for the support she provided during this difficult time.
The day of the funeral went smoothly and was professionally organised, removing any stress. Everyone commented on what a lovely touch the rose petals were at the end, as a last goodbye.
I would highly recommend A.W. Lymn of Spondon, if you require a professional, caring and compassionate service.

From the very start ,when my father first decided to arrange his own funeral, Lymn’s, represented by Kevin Hall, showed how efficient and caring their staff coul be.
My father was questioned carefully, politely and his wishes were teased out so pleasantly that my father throughly enjoyed the experience.
As soon as he passed away, Fiona Hall, from the Spondon office, carried out her duties, carefully, tactfully and with efficiency.
Despite Corvid19, the funeral and cremation were booked and organised very quickly indeed.
The Form of Service booklet was designed and printed ,quickly enough to get 50 posted to family and friends before the actual date. The booklet was beautifully presented and received praise from everyone who received it.
The Cortège arrived on time and the Staff at Briar Close House were delighted to be able to pay their respects, despite themselves being totally ‘locked down’.
Both Fiona and Kevin liaised with the minister, Rev Cliff Winfield, and the resulting service, was the very best ‘send off’ my father could have had in the restricted circumstances.
The Lymn’s Rolls Royce was immaculate, just how my father wishes to ‘go on his last journey’.

The thought and personalisation that went into the creation of the orders of service was really lovely and sending them out to those unable to attend the service so they could follow along with the live stream was a great touch. It was such as shame that his funeral was during my annual leave as I would have loved to have been personally involved but I am glad that we have had the opportunity to speak several times since. I was very impressed, with the whole package that I had, the cars were impressive, and the ushers were fantastic and had a calming effect at a very emotional time, nothing was too much for them
Fiona at the funeral parlour was very helpful and kind, and very helpful in organising the funeral for me, so much so that things went very smoothly on the day.
So my husband Brian had a lovely send off that he would have been proud of.
