The caring team at S Stibbards & Sons understand that contacting a funeral director can seem daunting, but with over 150 years experience, they are there to listen, reassure and support families at this very difficult time.

As a funeral home with family values at its heart, its focus is upon providing compassionate funeral care to families in Hockley and the surrounding villages, including Foulness Island, at whatever time of day or night it is needed.

S Stibbards & Sons’ Hockley funeral home provides a calm and tranquil atmosphere in which to make funeral arrangements. Stibbards offers a fleet of modern Jaguar hearses and limousines to ensure families and their loved one will travel in comfort, driven by their professional staff. Traditional horse-drawn hearses, vintage vehicles and other bespoke options can also be arranged.

S Stibbards & Sons is a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Homes Association (SAIF) and meets the high standards set by both.

It offers Golden Charter funeral plans to those who are considering the future, while as part of its support for families, it offers in-house bereavement counselling.

    We chose Stibbards of Hockley for my mum’s funeral, and I cannot speak highly enough of the care we received. The arrangements were handled by Diane Ellis, who was kind, professional, and compassionate from start to finish. She guided us through every step with patience and understanding during a very difficult time.

    Diane also introduced us to Nikki Deveraux, who visited us beforehand and took great care in writing and delivering a beautiful eulogy. It truly captured Mum’s life and spirit.

    The whole day was flawlessly managed by the Stibbards team. Everything ran smoothly and with dignity. Mum would have been very proud, and I’m extremely pleased we chose Stibbards.

    I can’t thank Stibbards Funeral Directors enough for the care and compassion they showed during one of the hardest times of our lives. From start to finish, their support was truly exceptional.

    Diane was absolutely wonderful — so caring, kind, and helpful. She guided us through everything with genuine empathy and patience, making a very difficult process feel just that little bit easier.

    On the day of the funeral, Simon led us with calm professionalism and warmth. He made sure we all knew what was happening, and that we were okay every step of the way. Nothing ever felt rushed — we had time to reflect, especially when looking at the flowers, and that meant a lot.

    Jon Stannard, who conducted the service, was just brilliant. He took the time to come to my mum’s house beforehand, listened to our stories, and really got to know who she was. On the day, he brought a sense of peace and even joy — he made us smile and laugh through our tears, turning the saddest of days into something truly meaningful and personal.

    Thank you to everyone at Stibbards. I don’t have a bad word to say — your kindness will never be forgotten.
