Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do when someone dies?

When someone dies you need to get a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death from a doctor, register their death and choose a funeral director to arrange their funeral. The Registration Office will give you a Death Certificate and Certificate for Burial or Cremation (GR021 in Northern Ireland).

How do you arrange a funeral?

You can arrange a funeral by choosing a funeral director who will help you organise all of the details. They can help you decide whether to have a cremation or burial and what type of service to choose, as well as additional options, such as music and flowers. You can find out what happens at a funeral and compare funeral directors on Funeral Guide.

How much does a funeral cost?

The cost of a funeral depends on where you are in the UK and whether you choose a burial or a cremation. Natural burial is becoming increasingly popular, but can often be more expensive than burial in a traditional cemetery. The cost of coffins, flowers, catering and transport also varies a lot. There is also an almost unlimited list of options for personalising a service, such as professional funeral singers or a motorcycle-hearse. You can compare the price of funeral directors on Funeral Guide.

The service from Stewart, Yvonne and all at the Co-op Scotstoun is second to none sadly I have had to arrange several funerals for loved ones in last year or so but knowing the care, compassion, professionalism and total dedication you get the minute you make first call makes everything so much easier at the most difficult of times. Yvonne is a true star who goes above and beyond for you and Stewart is the same my mums funeral was Christmas Eve and Stewart gave up his day to attend to her funeral personally this is dedication and cannot be thanked enough for. On behalf of the Holland family with love and thanks Joanne Holland xx

A big thank you for all the care and professional service given at the funeral last Monday. With special thanks to Julie for her work . She did an amazing job especially as I was hundreds of miles away trying to organise things by telephone. She overcame every obstacle with aplomb. Thank you Julie for all your help and support.  Margaret
