This review took me longer to write, not just because of losing my Mum, but because I wanted to find the right words to thank the incredible and professional team at Glasgow Independent Funeral Care. After Mum passed in December, me and my partner were totally lost and didn’t really know where to begin. We walked along Shettleston Road looking at a few places, but nothing felt right. When we got to Glasgow Independent Funeral Care the doors were locked, but as we tried the handle a light came on and a man came to the door and told us his name was David and he was the owner. Even though they were closed, he invited us in and spoke to us with such kindness, warmth and understanding and showed a genuine interest in who Mum was. He was very professional but made us feel like he knew us personally and made everything that little bit easier – we even had a few laughs telling stories about Mum. He took his time, explained everything clearly, and we left feeling that we were in safe hands. The next day he brought Mum into his care, which meant the world to us. Mum was an east end girl through and through and knowing she was close to home and being looked after somewhere warm and homely was a huge comfort. It also made it easy for us to visit Mum and we could even go in and do her hair and makeup the way she liked it. Every single tiny detail we wanted for Mums funeral was met with ease, no fuss or stress. David was there for every part of the arrangements - the crematorium, the celebrant, the coffin, the flowers, arranging for Mum to come home for a night and talking so much gentle care doing so, and for a priest to come along and say some prayers too- nothing was ever a hassle. He guided us through the music selection, designed beautiful order‑of‑service booklets and a photo tribute set to music for the crematorium, and memory cards after the day. A lovely touch I’ll never forget was when the cars pulled away from Mum’s — David walked ahead, slow and respectful, leading us down the street she called home, and then drove past places that meant something to her on the way to the service. He even contacted people he knew at the Woodend, where we’d chosen to go afterwards, to make sure everything there would run smoothly. From that first chat right through to the funeral itself, we were cared for in ways I’ll always be grateful for. The funeral was beautiful, sensitive, and exactly what Mum deserved. And even after everything was over, David and the team helped with Mum’s ashes and anything else we needed to finish things properly. I loved my Mum so much, and David made the hardest time so much more bearable. The respect he showed her, and us from day one means more than I can ever say. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for David and the whole Glasgow Independent Funeral Care team. They’re truly amazing people, and because of them, I know my Mum got the best send‑off possible. Simply Outstanding.
