Opened in 1895 by Sir Charles Cameron, Glasgow Crematorium, also known as Maryhill Crematorium is Scotland’s oldest cemetery.
Located in the beautiful grounds of Glasgow's Western Necropolis, Glasgow Crematorium is an independently-run crematorium, providing a tranquil, suitable venue for your loved one’s funeral.
The beautiful, gothic-styled building was originally designed by architect, James Chalmers (1858 - 1927) who used the finest materials, including red sandstone and rare marble. Maryhill Crematorium is now home to two chapels, both of which can comfortably accommodate your loved one’s funeral guests.
The Maryhill Crematorium Book of Remembrance which has been available since the early days, is on display in the arcade area at the rear of the Old Chapel, and is left open at the appropriate calendar date to allow entries to be viewed on each anniversary.
The Glasgow Crematorium is surrounded by spectacular gardens which incorporate dedicated, black/blue slate tablets which are available for purchase on a 10 year lease. The Garden of Reflection at Maryhill Crematorium is available for scattering your loved one’s ashes, unless you would prefer to keep them in an urn, which can be arranged by the crematorium.
