About Us
Located in the heart of Derby city centre, Derwent House on Becket Street has been proudly serving the local community since 1986, when it was first opened by respected funeral director David Meek. Originally a car garage, the building was transformed into a funeral home and continues to offer compassionate support to families from Derby and beyond.
Today, Derwent House serves as the base for Senior Funeral Director Kevin Hall, who has been with A.W. Lymn since 2003 and manages services across the wider Derby area. Kevin is joined by Funeral Director Mick Schofield, who recently transferred from the Ilkeston funeral home, bringing with him a wealth of experience and local knowledge. Funeral Arranger Greg Martin, who has recently earned his Diploma in Funeral Directing from the National Association of Funeral Directors, is also based at this funeral home and provides kind, professional support to families every day.
Derwent House is equipped with specialist washing facilities to support Asian and African-Caribbean funeral rites. The building also houses garaging for the Derby fleet of Rolls-Royce Phantom funeral vehicles, including a converted hearse formerly owned by Simon Cowell, and features a historic horse-drawn hearse from the 1890s.
This location serves the entire Derby area, including Allestree, Alvaston, Belper, Breadsall, Chaddesden, Darley Abbey, Duffield, Littleover, Mackworth, Markeaton, Osmaston, Pride Park, Sinfin, Spondon, and surrounding communities.

Neil was excellent and most understanding with my Uncle Ted , making sure he was able to attend the funeral , the wake and getting him home afterwards. Five stars is not enough.

Neil and the team at Derby have been absolutely fantastic from start to finish. We had to do everything as no plans we’re in place. After making contact with Neil, he helped me and my family with all the arrangements and together we had arranged the perfect send off.

First rate service - nothing was too much trouble for Fiona. It was especially comforting at such a sad time for myself and Katy my daughter. I know she will say that it was her job, but the personal service we received made it feel as if we were the only people in the world in this situation. A W Lymn are extremely professional and there are no words to describe the empathy and care received from all staff members, especially Kevin and Neil, who
go above and beyond.
Hence the reason we have approached them for the 3rd time for their funeral services, in the loss of our family relatives.

Just a couple of things. A relative made an appointment to say her final goodbyes to my mum. When she arrived at the appointed time she was told that she had gone to the wrong branch and they had not received the coffin!! So had too make another appointment days later. During the ceremony wrong dates were quoted and names confused. Arrangements made eg picking up mum's rings, leaving her glasses were not honored and I was presented with them at the funeral. All these little things made for alot of stress. But we would still recommend you.
