Everything was very well organised and the complex process following a sudden and unexpected death was made clear - So we had the minimum of fuss to contend with at a very difficult time for family and friends.
Alastair in particular managed everything with professional care and attention only contacting us for important decisions and dealing with everything promptly and efficiently so that we were able to hold the funeral at the earliest opportunity with 230 friends and relatives in a packed church.
For example the discovery that the coffin could not be cremated at West Berks was managed without any need for us to do anything and just to be informed that it was in hand
The family are very grateful as am I
The experience has confirmed my faith in the Coop funeral service coming from my family's connection with the Coop over 3 generations since my grandfather was a founding Coop director in Leicestershire.
    Thanks again
    Chris

I dealt with Bethany, from the very start, she was kind, caring yet professional.

She kept us informed at all times and checked to make sure we were happy with everything. At the very last minute over a bank holiday weekend, they managed to get us a live feed to the funeral when due to covid someone couldn’t attend. Within a few hours they’d emailed us a link which took the stress out of the uncertainty of not being able to attend at all. Would recommend their services without hesitation.

  • 5 Shirley Harper 24th Aug 2023

Throughout my interaction with the Co-op funeral care home, I was speaking to the same person and this, I welcomed. I particularly appreciated the language used when interacting with me. It showed respect and thoughtfulness for me and how I was feeling. The language used also demonstrated humanity and care for the person who had died.

At first not a good start as no one knew where my mum was, and they lost her. really distressing. After speaking to Simon who works at Reading he was magnificent and helped, Diane who also works at Reading same again very professional. The female director who was in the car with my mum on the day of her funeral was absolutely outstanding and gave me love a care which I needed. Reading as a team very caring. Your call centre at Manchester needs a lot of work and training you can’t have people working in this environment and not have a care in the world. As I said co-op lost my mum and took 2 hours to find her, I wanted to speak to a manager as this was so distressing they told me she was too busy to talk to me. Reading branch outstanding but for your call centre very very bad, if some one wants to call me I am on 07889676197 darren

Once we actually managed to register Dad's death and get the green burial form, everything was great and the staff at the Reading branch lovely, with a special mention for Alastair who was the perfect mix of friendliness, efficiency and professionalism, but up until then, it was quite stressful for my 88 YO mother .

Dad had pre-purchased a plan some 10 years ago so we had a number to call, Co-Op's ( I assume out-sourced?) central call-centre operatives who we initially had to deal with were less than great, and certainly not what I would have hoped for at this time. The real negative though was the Co-Op company policy of not being able to arrange the meeting and dates for anything until after the registrar appointment has happened and that green form has been received made it a more stressful time than I would have hoped, as our local council is booking 2-3 weeks ahead for appts to register a death, and the crematorium, churches, hotels, etc also, of course, have lead-times after that.
Thankfully through persistence, we managed to get an earlier cancellation appointment with the council to register, but it was quite a stressful period for my mother and this Co-Op policy ( the registrar told us no other undertaker has it) has caused Mum re-consider who she is purchasing her funeral plan from- a great shame as the actual local staff " on the ground" at the Reading branch are fabulous. 😔

When we viewed Mum, she looked lovely as if she was asleep. Everyone was very respectful and talked us through everything. They went out of their way to make sure everything went well. We are all very grateful to all at the Co-op and would like to thank you all very much

  • 5 Susan Jones 3rd Jan 2023

  • 5 Alison Rosier 3rd Jan 2023

I have never met such kind, sensitive staff, whether it be communicating over the phone or meeting in person, everyone was amazing.
Diane who went through arrangements,, Alistair and the young lady with him who met us at the crematorium whose name I can't recall, and the two young men who took my dad into the Co-ops care from his home late in the night.....
Everyone has been so thoughtful and caring.
My family and I are so very grateful.
