Excellent service throughout and all of the staff were absolutely brilliant.

Gail McGuinness 5th Mar 2022

The care of David was good , the staff are very patient , kind and compassionate . Ross is excellent at his job . Ross was most respectful throughout . Jim the chauffeur was such a kind man who put the family at ease and nothing was a bother . The parlour \ Co op interior is in very much need of redecoration , very dingy and tired . Quality of coffin beautiful , however navy was ordered and it was electric blue and too late to change , handles were ordered to be gold and they were silver . These details should have been right and caused me distress at the time that I could do nothing about . The coffin colour was a talking point and instead of being a special touch , I spent my time having to explain to everyone it wasn’t what was ordered . He was a catholic male so navy would have been more appropriate than this bright blue .

All of the staff were very helpful, approachable and respectful. They considered our preferences and, where possible, accomodated them.

I was sent the Order of Service to proof read on 7th January and I confirmed the same day that it was correct. Despite this, the Order of Services were not ready for the service on 21st January. The first we knew about this was when we were told just as we were about to go into the Crematorium – the excuse given was that they were of poor quality – blurred and with marks on them, so they were getting a fresh batch printed.
We were told they would arrive for the end of the service so Undertaker told us they had changed the Hymn to the end. This meant that the committal was half way through the service and the coffin went behind the curtain for the rest of the service. This was very upsetting as the whole point was that Andrea Bocelli ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ should have been at the end of the service and then the coffin going behind the curtain as the last act.
We should have been told the Order of Services were not ready when we got into the Family Car to give us time to think as then we would have suggested still using the poorer quality printed Order of Services to allow the funeral to follow the correct order and then the new prints could have been given to mourners as they were leaving as a keepsake. We got no apology at the time and when my brother and I went to the funeral parlour on 24th Jan to pick up dad’s ashes still none was forthcoming which was disgraceful. Everyone I have told about this since has said the printer would have noticed and not sent out the Order of Service if they were that bad and that it was more likely the Order of Service had never been passed to the printer. Regardless of the reason, this should never have happened. A lot of thought was put into what was right for my dad’s send off and for it not to run in the correct order because something as basic as not having the Order of Services printed is just plain disrespectful, wrong and unacceptable.
To add insult to injury I complained via the Co-operative funeralcare dedicated Complaints email address on 28th January to which I received an automated receipt of email. I have never heard another thing from them other than making sure they got the funeral invoice out. Don't go near them, you only have one chance to get a funeral right. Not only will the Co-op get something so basic wrong they'll also not even care!

The service and advice we received from our first meeting with Ross was excellent. He helped us in a professional manner but showed us he cared and genuinely wanted to give my Uncle the funeral that he had requested and deserved. I have never had to organise a funeral before but I found the process although emotional and difficult at times alot easier with the help and advice we received from Ross. On the day of the funeral everything went as we had planned.
    Thank you

The Cooperative Funeral Directors in Hamilton arranged my Aunt Margaret Gemson’s funeral on Wednesday 15 December 2021. They could not have been any more helpful or professional. Ross helped us to arrange everything and he ensured everything went smoothly. He liaised with the family, the parish priest, the cemetery, and made sure every detail was attended to. He even helped to arrange the mass being streamed on the internet.
I cannot thank him and his colleagues enough for their help and support at a very difficult time. I have received numerous messages from family and friends to say what a beautiful occasion it had been in celebration of Auntie Margaret’s life. Thank you Cooperative.
