The whole process of arranging a funeral for our son was just a nightmare to even think about but the support, compassion and guidance provided by Helen and Sonny was wonderful and everything Helen did for us on the day made it all easier for us to cope with. The respect Helen gave to Craig was heartwarming.

Excellent service from all the staff from the first step into the office. Great choice of flowers discussed with us. They kept us up to date on all developments and even called me on the Sunday before the funeral to confirm all details and going the extra mile of dropping items off as it was on the way home. Thank you all staff for making my daughters final journey a good one

My initial appointment in Perth went really well, I had clear instructions from my husband for his service. His requests were not straight forward due to the logistics. The package I chose allowed out of hours/weekend appointments but due to an error, by Perth, a Saturday appointment was not recorded on their system. My daughter and her family travelled from Aberdeen to find the office closed. After a couple of phone calls she was asked if she could wait around half an hour for someone to arrive to allow her appointment to proceed. This caused a lot of unnecessary upset at a very difficult time - this appointment was made on the Thursday and should have been checked on the Friday and the person on duty over the weekend made aware of the appointment. This incident left me with concerns about the rest of the details for my husband's service and I requested to deal with McKenzie & Millar, the Edinburgh branch, direct. I had expected Perth to liaise closely with their partners in Edinburgh to ensure good communication throughout the process. This was not the case and the uploading to the crematorium, in Edinburgh, of our music and video montage was very nearly timed out - this should have researched earlier by Perth along with the live link that I had requested. The Edinburgh branch were efficient, professional and very supportive from the minute we contacted them. The live link was provided immediately along with instructions for the sound system. The inexperienced member of staff, who initially took my appointment, should have requested support and assistance earlier from their colleague - who stepped in, brilliantly, from the weekend onwards - and the whole experience could have been so much better.

  • 4 John Ramsay 21st Aug 2023

Good friendly and compassionate throughout. Slight complications with order of service printing but this was a minor issue.
There was an issue with the owner of the building being extremely rude whilst parking, but this wasn’t down to the funeral directors.

Not living in Scotland meant that I was not familiar with Scottish funerals and what exactly the role of the funeral directors was so a bit more explanation at the beginning (if they handled the notification in the newspapers, how long the service was, when the committment took place in the service etc) would have been helpful. However, after a bumpy process of getting the Order of Service right!!, the funeral went beautifully and I really appreciated the caring attitude of all the funeral organisers concerned.

We, (the family) were very disappointed in the care, or rather, the lack of care received by the upper management of the Co-op Funeral Services which I believe is based in Forfar. We visited the Perth office to make arrangements for the funeral service for our loved one. The Perth office staff were very understanding and pastoral in their care of us.

However, the upper management made extremely upsetting decisions for us as a family regarding our loved one without any communication whatsoever and totally failed in their remit to care for the deceased and his family. Our loved one was to be taken to the Lynn Crematorium in Glasgow from Perth on the day of his funeral service. This was the arrangement made on our first visit. However, this was changed and he was to be taken down to Springburn in Glasgow to which we strongly objected to. Therefore, the funeral service arrangements were changed back again to our former arrangement of leaving from Perth on the day of the funeral service.

We were later informed that the arrangements were changed yet again and our loved one was to be taken to the Co-op Funeral Parlour in Springburn, again we objected and informed them that Springburn is some 30 to 45 minutes from the crematorium which was confusing for us as there is a Co-op Parlour in Rutherglen which is only 10 to 15 minutes from the crematorium. Also, although our loved one had died in the Perth Royal Infirmary, he had spent the last seventeen years of his life in Rutherglen We had informed them of this when they mentioned our loved one being taken to Glasgow prior to his funeral service and Rutherglen would have been less distressing as there was a family connection.

Our loved one was taken down to Springburn several days prior to his funeral service which we did not learn of until he was almost at Springburn as we received very short notice of the transfer to the Springburn Parlour, indeed he was arriving in Springburn when we were informed.

We were. and still are extremely disappointed by their treatment of our loved one and ourselves and we feel very strongly that the decision to move our loved one was a logistical one as this would allow the hearse which was to be travelling up and down to the Lynn Crematorium on the same day taking up several hours was now available to be used in Perth.
We feel this decision to change from the original plan was a decision to suit their own ends and did not in any shape or form consider our feelings and the grief it caused us.

So much, for the care and rest for the deceased which is promised in their remit and it upset us greatly as we feel they had disturbed his rest by their actions. Their remit is also promised to that of caring for the family in their time of bereavement. We feel they failed miserably on both accounts and caused the family a great deal of distress, anxiety and trauma to suit their own purposes.

We have asked for an explanation and an apology and almost four weeks on there has been no contact at all despite the fact I have left several phone messages which have been ignored.
