Michael Dale Stephenson, born in Middlesbrough, son of Peter and the late Margaret – his birth weight 3lb 1oz!
From a tiny tot – to a larger than life character, always so focused in every aspect of life.
From school the Royal Marines Cadet training led him to become a Royal Marines Commando.
He joined the West Yorkshire Police and became Sergeant leading the Task Force and Armed Response Units, which included occasional Royal Protection.
Mike found his “dream post” as Sergeant in the Dorset Police Marine Section.
On retiring from the Police he joined the MCA (Maritime and Coastal Agency) eventually becoming Head of Resilience and briefly becoming Acting Assistant Chief Coastguard.
A born leader who loved sport and amateur dramatics too. On the stage his first love was comedy, but when called to play a straight role he also excelled with his lovely singing voice “He was great to play alongside”
As Royal Marine, Police Officer or on the stage he was a team player – who always knew his lines!!
The onset of ill health in November 2011 has seen the true courage and depth of the man.
An integral part of family life as a son, husband, brother, father and grandfather; he is survived by daughters Emma & Laura and grandchildren Bethany and Jack. He will be sadly missed.
“Gone too soon – a great 56 years”

Mike, beloved, we are all stunned by the loss of you and miss you more than words can ever describe.

You met each hurdle with steadfast endurance and no complaint, how I admire you for that, as do all those you left behind.

And now you have no obstacles in your way, surely a blessing from God, and angels look after you in a devine and everlasting life.

Thank you for our happy times together and for finding me again after so long.

Our second chance was precious and you will live forever in my heart.

The devastation within me is hard to bear - that you are safe in heaven is a consolation I hold onto.

I hope that you are endlessly happy now and I live only to see you again, one day.

Goodnight baby, sweet dreams and God bless.

Your loving Sarah

Broken hearted.

At this time I can not put down my feelings for my son Michael. It is not right that he should pre decease me.no parent should have bury his own child a specially at such a young age.
I am so proud of both my sons and it is only at times like these that you get to know through the eyes of their friends and work colleagues how well they are respected.
I miss Michael more than I can say, there are no words to express my feelings at this time.
Can I then thank Richard, Karen ,Emma, James and their families for looking after me.
The most important thanks must go to my family and Michaels friends and work colleagues for their letters, cards and kind remarks and attendance at the funeral.

my heartfelt and sincerest sympathies go to all the members of the family. There are few people who met mike that don't have a happy story or incident to remember.
I am glad that we enjoyed a rich friendship and believe he is truly now at peace without any pain. I count it an honour to continue to 'look out' for Emma and Laura.
May God grant His peace.
In fond remembrance,
Phil

We've shared many happy trips over my 28 years,
The owl sanctuary, police boat, memories to last for years,
Rockley Park was by far the best, we both had so much fun,
Swimming all day and Saturday night at the disco until we were done.
We've had many pets, they've made us smile, memories won't ever tire,
Labradors outnumber the others, Inca, Sky, Meg, Belle and Briar,
My favorite was Hiss, (the snake) who I looked after and fed,
And I loved how he slithered everywhere, especially over my bed.
I know things have sometimes been hard, especially when I have been ill,
Many stays in hospitals but at my side you've been there still,
Keeping me company, making me laugh in various different ways,
Pete the Conductor, guitars and drums and the 'Promise' for days and days.
I know now that I can't just 'visit you' but I still want you to know,
I love you so much and want to thank you, which I can't always show,
You'll always be my Dad and I shall miss you everyday,
But there'll always be part of you in me, so you're never far away.
Love you Dad - always. Loz X

Always Remembered... Always Loved!
MY DADDY by Laura Stephenson

Part One

To Dad,
I wanted to write something to you on this day,
To thank-you for your love and help in my own special way,
It's true that I am very unique and sometimes things were tough,
But we managed to get through it all, just your love was enough.
When I was little I had lots of fun,
I was a often cheeky to you and to Mum,
I loved going to brownies, and still do today,
Playing with all my toys and having friends round to play.
I once enjoyed washing your car, a lovely convertible,
I didn't realize you had to shut the roof and I got into big trouble!
I tried to phone you at work several times on 999,
Again I got into bother as this is not your personal line.

To my brave and loving Dad.you were always there for me throughout my life no matter what. The times you spent with me were always special even though I drove you mad sometimes.Every hospital stay(which were many)you was there by my side.We had so many fun times you calling me all different made up names which seem to stick with me.I know I am not the same as everyone else and cannot do as much as everyone else can but you always loved me just the way I am.You know Dad that I have a special place in my heart for the Lord Jesus and I know that you are in Heaven now and you will wait for me. I love you now and always and will look after Emma and Mum and keep them smiling for you.I will miss you so much but I know you were tired and now you are at peace and in no pain so for now that's ok with me but I will see you again in Paradise. Mike, you will be sorely missed but never forgotten by those who had the pleasure to work alongside you.

My deepest sympathy to Mike’s family and friends. The word heartbroken comes nowhere close to describing ones feelings. Mike was a truly remarkable man. The fun and laughter that we shared during those teenage years were simply wonderful, and beyond price. I will treasure those memories as long as I live. It was a privilege to know you. Rest peacefully, my friend.
