I've known Joan for a very long time, over 30 years!
Joan epitomised the word 'kind'- she didn't have a bad bone in her body. A sweet lady who put everyone, always before herself.
Joan adored Ben, from the minute he was born Joan done everything for him. Both Joan and Doug played such a major part in Ben's life. They were always there, Joan would take him to school whilst I worked and would be at the door at 615am in the morning in her bluey green raincoat. She never once cancelled because of the weather or illness or just not wanting to get up at such an early time in the depths of winter. She was just always there. At the door, ready for when Ben (or Benjamin as they always referred to him as) woke up.
For my part, she was always my Mother-in-Law regardless of changes in life. I never once felt anything other than that and that was down to the kind of people they were.
Kind... real, proper, genuine old fashioned kind.
