In loving memory of Amarjit "John" Singh who sadly passed away on Wednesday 26th January 2022, aged 68 years.

The youngest of five siblings, Amarjit was born in Bilga, Punjab on 12 November 1953 to Rattan Singh and Harbans Kaur, and raised with love and care - and perhaps a little too much freedom as a "laadla" (young loved one). He was the strongest heart in his home, leading and supporting his family, bringing them together as his father and mother had always done.

They came to England when he was around 6 years old, settling in Derby and making the city their permanent home. Here, he grew up surrounded by loving friends and family, their home focused on the importance of family and the community.

In 1974, on the 30th March, he married Deepo Kaur, the true love in his life, creating a home where they lived and welcomed their children - Rivenpreet, Daljit, Sanjeev and Sandeep (Sunny). Centred around their bibi, Harbans Kaur, it was Amarjit that gave his mother the strength to do what she needed and to provide the love that would keep his siblings together through troubled times.

As the family grew to include his nephews and nieces and their subsequent families, he delighted in the times they were together and what they meant to him. It was a home filled with a love for dancing, banter and laughter, and his care and strength helped ensure that bond for his children long after they were grown.

Amarjit worked at Royal Crown Derby for 35 years. He spent his free time on his beloved cars, spending hours working on the engines he loved so much and the rest of his time pulling his kids out of the engine pit and chasing them down the street when they "accidentally" took the car for a ride.

It was this love that grew to include Amrik (Bobby), Rebena, Amritpal (Paul) and Parminder and eventually the grandchildren Erith, Bernisha, Samrath, Simran, Manjott, Gurgyaan, Millen and Gia.

"Our Dad and Grandad: our superhero, our rock, our strength, our power and our friend, love and miss you so much."

Chris Bottrill wrote

Always a gentleman and a most wonderful colleague and friend. Rest in peace Amarjit.
