On 23rd January 2022, at Croft House Care Home, Gawthorpe, of Ossett, aged 72 years, Derek, much loved husband of Pat, dearly loved dad of Sarah, beloved brother of Becky and the late John, cherished grandad of Thomas and Isabelle, a dear father-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle.
Funeral service will take place at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium on Monday 14th February 2022 at 11.10am. Friends, please accept this intimation and meet at the crematorium. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu may be made online or placed in the collection box provided for the benefit of Dementia UK.

Dear Pat,please accept my utmost apologies but I am not going to be able to attend Dereks funeral on Monday after all as I am going into quarantine on Saturday ready for the beginning of my eye surgery which has been brought forward to Tuesday.
I am heartbroken at this change as I dearly wanted to pay my respects to the best man I have ever known. I first met Derek when I was a young 11yr old junior cricketer in 1969 .That meeting turned into a friendship that has lasted these many years. I was lucky enough to play against him many times before playing in the same side at Thornhill at the end of our careers.
He was a great cricketer,a great man and a wonderful friend I will never forget.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this tragic time.
