In loving memory of David George Hume who sadly passed away on 14th November 2021 after a short illness.
A life long lived. David was born in York and lived his early years on a Hull road before moving as a child to Heslington Road, where his mum Millicent was postmistress. He went onto live the short distance away in Hartoft Street, where he lived and owned a corner shop and grocery van round. He later returned to being a joiner firstly for Bass Brewery, moving to Cravens until retirement at 65 and then onto Browns (WP) until the age of 80. He married Amy Homer and had 63 years together before she passed away in May 2021. They raised 4 children, Elaine, Michael, Andrew and Angela, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was a hard worker, a gentleman and loved and respected by all those he met.
It was not until his grandchildren were learning about the war that he really told stories of his time defending the country. He then became a proud member of the British Legion and looked forward to selling poppies for the veterans. One of the last things he enjoyed was a vey personal service held in his room at York Hospital before passing quietly later that evening.
We will rember.
