David Julian Bradley (Dave)

David (Dave to his friends) was born in Harrogate on 26 July 1970. His parents Gordon and Lorna and sister, Vivienne, lived in Wetherby at the time and soon afterwards moved to Appleton Roebuck, where David attended Appleton Roebuck Primary School followed by Tadcaster Grammar School.

David started playing tennis at the age of eight, when the new tennis courts were opened in the village and from 11 onwards, started playing competitively in tournaments all over Yorkshire - winning some trophies on the way. From 13 years of age onwards, he started playing with the adult teams. Tennis was a huge part of his life and he played club tennis at a high standard for all of this life - and in addition found time to play on a Sunday morning with his friends.

His working life was spent at Asda, followed by Morrisons and then back to the Asda group where he worked for IPL. He was a retail buyer and worked across many categories - from wine, home, running the ASDA bakeries and most recently in nuts! He loved his work however a greater passion still was Leeds United, who he first watched play at Elland Road when he was at primary school. He was a season ticket holder for decades and was delighted that they made it back to the top tier of football - although disappointingly he didn't make it back to watch his team play.

With all these passions in his life - Dave still had time for his biggest love - his friends and family. He loved spending time with them and was a generous host (although you did need to know how to use a coaster!). His happy place was on holiday in Portugal with his friends Mike and Ruth who he had known for over 20 years when they met at ASDA.

David passed away on 29 July 2021 peacefully at York District Hospital aged 51 years, after a heroic battle with cancer. He fought until the end and always remained positive. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Donations in lieu of flowers to Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres can be made on this site. Maggie's is a charity providing free cancer support and information in its centres across the UK. David visited the beautiful centres at Leeds and Manchester and their wonderful staff provided David with a calm and tranquil environment and he was extremely appreciative of the support he received from them.
