In loving memory of Margaret Angela Biffen who sadly passed away on the 22nd of April 2021, aged 85 years.

Homily

Firstly, Don wishes to say what a remarkable person Margaret was in taking on someone with all his health problems, he feels that somewhere in his past he must have done something really good to have deserved her as his wife for 63 years
.
Margaret was quite a brave woman in her own quiet way. At the age of 23 and pregnant with her first child, she moved from Calne to Southampton, away from all her family and friends. But she quickly established a new network, many of whom are here today, some 60 years later. Sadly she also lost both her parents at a young age and her beloved sister, Barbara in her early sixties.

She forged a successful career as a Dental Surgery Assistant while raising the family and supporting Don’s business. Modestly, she probably didn’t see herself as having a successful career, but she was certainly extremely well regarded by those she worked with.

Elizabeth pointed out that all the sympathy cards we have received all pointed out her kindness and ability to give really good advice and guidance when needed. She certainly took no prisoners when the situation demanded it, fighting the corner for those she felt deserved it or were being treated unfairly by those in authority, schools, doctors or employers.

Kate remembers Margaret being a great worrier about the safety of her family. We always had to phone when we got home or to wherever we were travelling. It feels so strange not reaching for the phone to say “I’m home” when walking through the door. Kate’s last memory of Margaret was of her standing on the door-step waving her off as she drove home.

She adored her grandchildren, William, Lucy and George, they bought her so much joy and pleasure and she was so proud of the lovely young people they have become.

Matthew and Lillie wish it to be noted that in addition to all the above, she made the best-ever rock cakes and apple pies.
