In loving memory of Ivor who sadly passed away on Tuesday 13th April, at Southend Hospital, aged 86.

He was a wonderful husband to Beverley, Father to Tracey and Trevor, Grandad to Amanda, Jessica, Eleanor and Louis, Great-grandad to Ella-Rae, Father in Law, Brother, Uncle and good friend to so many!

Born in 1934 in Leytonstone, London to Eveline and Harry, he moved to Westcliff-on-sea at the age of nine. Here he met and made the friends that he held dear, all his life. Meeting Beverley in 1951 and marrying in 1957, after doing two years National Service. They were lucky enough to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary together, just a few weeks ago.

A stonemason by profession, he then went on to be a tiler and then a builder, plumber, electrician, painter, decorator and general know it all.. there wasn't anything he didn't know or couldn't turn his hand to! A fountain of knowledge, no one can replace! Sailing was a great love of his, along with snooker and painting, but he was probably his happiest at his beloved caravan in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Here he and Beverley had some of their best times over the years with family and great friends.

A mischievous, cheeky and happy chap.. with a heart of gold, the world just isn't going to be the same without him!

Rest in peace and thank you for all your love, support and laughter.. You'll be greatly missed, but never forgotten xx

Uncle Ivor, when Tracey told me of your passing my heart sank and weighed heavy but, thinking back on the times we visited, bumped into each other in and around Southend and spoke on the phone, I can’t help but raise a smile for the memories of you are joyous and fun filled. I remember the times I spoke to Dad about you and there was always this little smile that appeared on his face as if the two of you had a long-standing naughty secret but, if you did, I never got to know what it was.

Time spent with you was always filled with laughter and fun and it is those memories of those times that I shall take on, bringing a smile to my face whenever I think of you.

You leave a great void behind, the size of which will never be filled, but the love everyone has for you will, I hope, help to bring some comfort and solace to Auntie Beverley, Tracey and Trevor and all of your grand and great grandchildren at this sad and difficult time.

“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die”.

Ivor was my godfather and best mate with my dad since they were 8. So many happy, funny memories of somebody you could rely on. The font of all knowledge and skilled in so many things. Like his mother before him (Mrs D), somebody you just cannot replace. You will remain in our hearts forever - Carol, Alan & Margaret.

So sorry to hear the passing of Ivor.
A good friend for many years. We had so many good times with Ivor, Bev, Tracey and Trevor - holiday camps, evenings over the Wardrooms, parties etc. Never a dull moment with Ivor around ... and the best snooker partner I (Reg) ever had. You'll always be in our thoughts.

Wow, what can I say? Uncle Ivor has been there for as long as I can remember (he was a little older than me, after all). He never seemed to age, nor lose his wonderfully cheerful love for life. I remember his boats, his paintings, and his always helpful advice, but have long tried to forget walking across a newly laid concrete running that I'd 'helped' him lay. You will be missed, dear friend and mentor, but never forgotten and never not being able to raise a smile–love to all who are grieving now.

“Perhaps there’s a special tool to budge it…”

“The garage can’t seem to be able to fix that niggly problem with the car…”

“I wonder if anyone could recommend someone…”

The answer to these and so many more of life’s challenges nearly always lay with my fantastic Uncle Ivor, and on the rare occasions even he couldn’t help I could still rest assured that I’d be welcomed with a cup of tea or a beer, loads of entertaining stories and some not-so-clean but always very funny jokes.

He meant the world to my Mum, as he did to me too, and he’s left a hole that will never be filled. Love to all his family and friends who are feeling the pain of this, and let’s take comfort from the fact that a legend is never forgotten.

I have so many happy memories of my dear brother, from the times he used to scare me with ghost stories during the war to him surprising me on a Saturday morning with a plate of jellied eels – and so many more in between. I shall miss him and his wonderful generosity, sense of humour and love enormously.
