In loving memory of Benjamin Mark Shaw who sadly passed away on 23rd March 2021 after a short but determined fight against a rare paediatric brain cancer.
Benjamin was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour known as DIPG last August. He underwent two brain surgeries and a course of radiotherapy. He had gained a place at Dartford Grammar School and was so determined to be there for the first day that he did so and continued to attend throughout the radiotherapy and beyond. In December we had the devastating news that the tumours had spread to his spine. Benjamin never stopped fighting no matter what and he was the bravest person we have ever met. He passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by family.
The funeral will be held on 20 April 2021 at St Mary's Church, Fawkham, followed by a cremation at Thamesview Crematorium. Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance is limited though we are hoping to share a recording of elements of the service.
In lieu of flowers, we would prefer donations to be made in Benjamin's honour. We will be supporting two charities at the funeral and in the coming months. Firstly, Abbie's Army (https://www.abbiesarmy.co.uk) who are a small brain tumour research charity focused on making progress in the fight to find a cure for DIPG tumours - Amanda, the founder, sadly lost her own daughter to DIPG and works tirelessly to support work and resources across the UK. Secondly, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity (https://www.royalmarsden.org). The team at The Royal Marsden, Sutton supported Benjamin and the wider family throughout his treatment with the utmost care and compassion - the work they do is truly invaluable in the hardest of circumstances and we can never thank them enough.
We have been thankful for and humbled by the support we have received since Benjamin's passing, but if you would like to upload any comments, photos, memories, or stories to this page, that would mean a great deal to us as we do everything we can to remember the joy that Benjamin brought to us all.
Dearest Benjamin - our very own superhero.
