In loving memory of Stella Anne Dick who sadly passed away on 3rd January 2021 aged 78 years.

No Flowers, but if you wish to do something in Stella's memory, please donate to the chosen charities.

Stella spent 36 years in education, teaching at various times in Glasgow; Toronto, Canada; Brighton; Chatham and Bromley. In the early years she taught mainly P.E. but then later years taught R.E and English up to A level. In the latter two places she was a Deputy Head of School.
On retirement she stood and was elected a Public Governor at Medway Hospital and helped to steer the hospital through a very difficult time. She was the Lead Governor before stepping down at the end of her tenure.
Stella studied throughout her life and acquired many qualifications including a degree in English and two MAs in Education.
She had a very active retirement taking up painting, cross-stitch, she read avidly and became a knowledgeable film buff. She also became heavily involved the in the active retirement organisations Hempstara and Kentara.
Stella caught the travel bug early in life and has visited very many countries all round the world. She was planning two cruises for later this year.
We will all miss Stella, she was as her name suggests a true star.

While I might be late to hear this news, I’d still love to contribute. Miss Dick was a sheer force of nature. The only person I’ve been met who could not only teach a class immaculately but also step in and properly teach a substitute class if she had to - no read these chapters, but actual learning. She was so well read, well travelled and cultured, and truly someone a young person in Medway could look up to. What a role model - she showed me that I could be anything and go anywhere. She also taught me that Shakespeare loved to talk about food…. and in his world, food means….sex… and they’re all cavorting (I’d need the beautiful lilting Scottish accent to do that justice) but she certainly made learning fun and informative. Rest in peace Miss Dick. You were a wonderful force of nature and the world was all the richer for knowing you. Thank you for your inspiration and passion of learning xxx

Very sorry to hear this news. Miss Dick (as I knew her) taught me A level English Literature between 1992 and 1994. Twenty-three years and two English degrees later, I am following her example teaching my own A level English Literature lessons. Miss Dick had a wonderful way of steering me towards alternative interpretations of a text without totally revealing what it was, so it encouraged me to unravel it for myself. Thank you so much. Rest in peace.

Stella we first met setting up HempstARA and with your guidance and a good Committee the Club was a great success. Even when you stepped down we kept in touch until the end. I think the 5th verse of Amazing Grace fits the Bill.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
You are part of the rich tapestry of my life Linxx

I only came to know Stella when she first joined the governors at Medway Maritime Hospital, where she did a great job on behalf of patients and staff. She told me so many stories of her life and always had me laughing, even when she became very ill, and I'm sure she's doing the same in Heaven now. I wish I'd had the chance to know her earlier and I shall miss our afternoon teas.

Stella, you were truly one of a kind. You inspired, mentored and guided me at St John Fisher; especially with my 'A' level teaching. Every time I teach 'Antony and Cleopatra', I will think of you.
