The first time I met Don was on an away trip to Garforth Golf Club. On the first green he had a very difficult putt across two levels and a slope to the left. He was chewing a wooden tee peg and had the look of a man who expected PM to hole out, I’m thinking he’ll be lucky to get it within four foot. He finally addressed the ball and sent it on its way . It was a beautifully struck putt and of course he holed it. I looked at him and said “ did you expect to hole it” he looked at me disdainfully and replied ‘. of course I did”
That was my first of many lessons from the the fiercely competitive Don. a man who set the hugest standards for himself and his teammates
He will be missed but remembered by the lads on a Thursday night at the Cricket Club, especially his thought provoking constructive opinions
