In loving memory of Franklin John Hartle who sadly passed away on 19th September 2020, in Spain, unexpectedly.

Franklin was a vibrant, caring man, always seeking to find new ways and opportunities in life and for people. A quiet, intelligent person, with a love for travel, all things music, education and thinking outside the box. He inspired all who loved, worked or knew him from the smallest passing moment to a lifetime of memories. He loved adventure, music, travelling, and embraced this while working across the globe during his long career and retirement. He has permanently instilled and shared these passions in his children, grandchildren and all that he has known throughout his life.

Shirley, Sally and Joanna would very much like you to share memories here and photos of both the life-changing moments and funny encounters along the way.

We are aware that many cannot sadly be with us to celebrate Franklin's Life in person at this time. We welcome you to share a moment with us to raise a glass of your favourite tipple and remember him fondly.

As Franklin wished, there are to be no flowers at the funeral aside from ones from Shirley and the Girls. Instead we ask that, should you wish, you donate to one of his passions. The family thought that it would be wonderful to create a legacy fund in his memory; this would honour his involvement in education and aspirational leadership.

Franklin's family have asked that The St Christopher School will establish a legacy project in his memory. Franklin Hartle was Chair of Governors at The St Christopher School and has been involved with the school for over 20 years. He was also Chair of Trustees for Southend SEN Trust.

To contribute to the legacy fund, please use the following details:

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/franklinhartlelegacyproject

Please highlight link and copy and paste into browser.

All monies raised will go toward a legacy project in recognition of Franklin's dedication and hard work in our schools, to support children with special needs by developing leaders for the future. Its aim is to support aspiration and leadership across Southend SEN Trust focusing at The St Christopher School.

The family hope that this legacy will continue to change lives for a long time to come, something that Franklin truly believed in.

We look forward to reading your memories!

A wonderful and fitting tribute to Franklin. His friends at La Raqueta were shocked to hear he had been taken ill just a day after he had been playing tennis with us in Nerja. He was his usual energetic and cheerful self and the later news of his passing was devastating for everyone. All in the tennis group here send their love and condolences to Shirley, the family, and all Franklin's friends worldwide. He will be greatly missed!

We enjoyed being with you in this loving and meaningful service.
Frank was a good friend to me at school. He was liked by everyone.
I particularly remember two vacations as students when we worked together at Holiday Camps- happy days!
Frank was an intelligent, thoughtful, caring person. Some people make the world a better place, and that is what Frank did.
I am pleased Frank was rewarded with a lovely wife and family and a successful and happy career.
Frank fulfilled himself.
Thank you Frank for the friendship you gave me and for what you gave humanity.
Lovely memories ! xxxx

I treasured my time working alongside Franklin with Darlinghurst School's local governing body during a big time of change. I was a rookie parent governor Chair; Franklin had very graciously and generously agreed to sit as Vice Chair to steer us in our change and provide experience backing and informal coaching to me. I am also a Learning and Development manager in my professional life, so I enjoyed further interesting and inspirational conversations about people and leadership development in addition to the education context. He made me think, he made me stop and reflect and gifted to me valuable perspectives that I call upon now. I also enjoyed our occasional glass of rioja in Leigh on Sea and Southend, to chew the fat about school governance and talk about his beloved camino adventures. He had been talking to me about visiting Bath, where I moved to a few years ago, to catch up and see the rugby. When I think of Franklin, I think of talent, education, walks and fresh air, jazz, rioja, India, leadership and kindness. I'm very thankful and fortunate that I was able to cross his path. My condolences to all of Franklin's family, Jane.

I first met Frank at NCSL in Nottingham before working with him as a trustee at Southend Education Trust. He helped me by working with governors to bring together the two schools I was working in almost 10 years ago now. Always pleasant, wise and warm, his knowledge and understanding of the world of education was phenomenal. Ultimately though he was just one of life's really good guys and it was always a pleasure to spend time with him.

Memories will remain with me of my regular Friday discussions with Franklin. Oh how we would scrutinise our favourite dramas, Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders and many more. After we had worked out the plot, Shirley would join us for a coffee and a bun ring.
Thank you for your kindness and friendship.
Forever in our hearts. with love Jane and Ian xxx

This photo of Frank (talking to Doug Crawford) was taken at our last big Hay Group reunion in 2011, when 144 of us attended. What a night that was! Frank will be deeply missed by our Hay Group family

I played many a game of tennis with Franklin in Nerja. Franklin was a competent and competitive player, but he was always professional and had great integrity on the court. After the games we enjoyed a beer (or two) and I was always impressed with his travels and knowledge of the world. Unfortunately we have been locked down in South Africa and so I did not see Franklin this season, but I will be sure to raise my glass to a really nice chap when I get there next. My thoughts are with you all, god bless.
