In loving memory of Robert Epworth Chamberlain who sadly passed away on 25th April 2020.

Bob was born in Hornchurch, Essex, in 1937 but his parents soon moved to Rugby. He grew up in the countryside near Hillmorton and loved playing with friends on farms and being in nature. He attended Paddox Primary School (which his daughters later went to) and Lawrence Sheriff School before becoming an apprentice at Rugby Radio Station, where he spent all his working life. Bob also later had some land for a few years and was a part-time sheep farmer, which he loved.

He married Rita Bosworth in 1959 and they enjoyed car rallying and travelling to Scotland and Ireland, as well as doing up their house ready for the arrival of their daughters Julie and Sandie. The family, along with dog Tina, enjoyed holidays in Llandudno (where Sandie now lives), Derbyshire and Yorkshire. Bob had many interests including metal detecting, model railways, photography and candle making.

Bob had to retire early on health grounds in 1989 and he and Rita spent their time gardening, enjoying trips out and birdwatching (an interest Julie now has).

When Rita fell ill with cancer Bob cared for her devotedly until her death in 2006. Bob was always very proud of Julie and Sandie and they miss him very much.

I'm so sorry for your loss Julie. Not an easy obit to write - very emotional for you, but well written. Your dad had a full and loving active life and is now at peace with your mum. You can be proud of your care and concern for his health and welfare, especially in your dad's latter years. If you believe in God l think the Chairmen of the Board's song I'm On My Way To A Better Place sums up it all up. In

  • Thank you for such a lovely comment Eddy, and thank you for donating. I have just listened to that song and it is very fitting. Dad actually used the words that he hoped he'd go to a better place several times, so it is very appropriate. x
