In loving memory of Tom Hickman who sadly passed away on 28th March 2020 after a long and hard fought fight with Parkinson's Disease.

Tom continued to work until the beginning of February 2020 - writing, editing and proofreading. He never stopped working and never 'allowed' his diagnosis to prevent him from doing what he loved best. A journalist for most of his career, and later a published author, Tom was well respected by all those who had the pleasure of working with him.

Meeting the love of his life Lyn in 1957 and marrying in October 1960, Tom and Lyn enjoyed nearly sixty years of marriage, raising six children and living the 'Good Life' with their young family which included numerous dogs, cats, goats, birds, chickens, rabbits, ducks and geese, to name but a few.

The middle of three children, Tom leaves his younger brother Peter whom he referred to as one of his best friends. Sadly their older sister passed on 13th March 2020, a mere two weeks beforehand. .

Dad to six children and PoppaTom to fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, he leaves a hole in all our hearts but memories of a much loved man - always a REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE.

I spent a long time thinking about what to say, but then I realised that there are no words to explain the sorrow, pain and overwhelming feeling of love that all of us are feeling right now.

It’s hard to love someone so much yet having no control, which only emphasises the fact that we must treasure every single moment with those we love.

We’ve lost an absolute soldier, nevertheless we are thankful that he is no longer suffering, we only want what’s best for him; as he would for us.

Simply, I’m just so glad to have known the wittiest and strongest man whom was loved by all - that is how I’ll always remember him

I will hold you in my heart forever Poppa Tom

Love, Millie x

I was thinking about dads published works, and how they would continue. This quote by Andy Warhol seems to sum it up perfectly:
"The idea is not to live forever but to create something that will."
