Our Son Dean was born in Adelaide, Australia on 19th Jan 1971. He was about 4 when we returned to Ilkeston and I think that this travelling set him off as he never stopped traveling. He first went to the south of France by car on holiday ,then he lived for 3 months in Nigeria where I was working, when he was only 7 years old. His ambition was always to join up and he finally decided on the Royal Air Force when he was 17. He completed 12 years service and worked on GR1 Tornado's, C130 Hercules, Puma helicopters and his favourite ,the Chinook. On leaving the RAF, he went sub contracting as an Aircraft Technician. His work took him to Cyprus, Egypt, Norway, France, Italy , South Africa and of course 4 years in Spain, Seville his favourite place, where he worked on P3 Orion's for the Brazilian Air Force. He quickly became fluent in Spanish. He finally left Spain, which broke his heart and came home. Here he worked on aircraft in Cambridge and his final job was at RAF Waddington working on Awacs. It was at this time that Dean became unwell, he had to finish work and he slowly deteriorated. He still forced him self to go walking in Derbyshire. He went to his boyhood Friend Marks wedding in Nice, then last year Christmas in Latvia with Mark and Family. From about March/ April time he really got ill and finished up on chemo and virtually bed bound . He was taken into the City hospital in November and he sadly left us on 11th December. Dean has always been smart, well presented and pleasant, he could speak to anyone and carry a good conversation. And he liked a drink with his Dad in the Cottage, a Son to be proud of. We love and miss you Son, sleep well and we will give you a proper send off.

Very few people have an impact on your life that you’ll never forget, but ‘Oz’ was definitely that type of character. Funny, genuine, caring and loyal were just a few ways to describe Dean and he was a true legend at the RAF bases he was stationed at. It was a true honour to call Dean a friend.

A few of your old RAF buddies will come up to Ilkeston Wednesday to give you a good send off mate.

Always in our thoughts

Rikki

Dean is remembered with with fond memories in last 40 years. The Gordon family have known Dean since he was at Junior school. He made friends with my son Andrew, where they played football for Ladywood Junior FC. My husband Andy was the team Manager. Dean would often call into our house from school with Andrew looking for a snack. He always had a cheeky smile that you couldn’t not love. He played with Ladywood until he left to join the Royal Air Force, which made Joan and Ian so proud. When I lost my husband 12 years ago, Dean would call in to see me and to see how I was doing.
He came to my surprise Birthday party at Morley Hayes last March, what a lovely surprise that was for me.
This is such a sad sad time for Joan, Ian, Tracey and family, words cannot be said to say how I feel for them. All my love Linda xxx

May I pass on my condolences at the passing of "Oz".
I worked with Dean in the late 90's on 56(R) at RAF Coningsby. I have good memories of a chatty, funny, "strawberry blonde" bloke who liked a pint.
I've not seen him since I left Coningsby in the early 2000's but got back in contact via Facebook a couple of years ago.
His occasional posts were as funny as his conversation from those "Pan Trash' days.
A true gent who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Rest easy old boy.
Mick.
