In loving memory of Fred Hunt who sadly passed away on 2nd January 2019

Fred was the eldest son of Fred and Florence, with 5 siblings. He lived in Carrington all of his life, working primarily at J Ward's Farms, and then as a self employed gardener. Never one to sit down, he also found time to grow and sell his own fruit and vegetables from home, and then flowers and plants through markets and car boot sales.
In his spare time he was a member of the Special Constabulary, a Flood Warden, a member of the Parish Council, and a member of the Village Hall Committee. And if that didn't make him busy enough, he was also a football referee and one of Park Utd FC's longest standing members.
Old enough to have completed National Service, he was also a member of the Royal British Legion and a Poppy Organiser and Collector for them.
During the Second World War, he had witnessed the crashing of a Lancaster Bomber in Sibsey Northlands and, with others, he created the Sibsey Lancaster Memorial Trust, ensuring that the crash site had a memorial and the crew members were remembered each year at a Service.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Although I have only known Fred a short while, I have come to appreciate what an amazing man he was. Dedicated to whatever it was he was involved in, from his tireless work remembering the crew of the Lancaster to getting his bedding plants in a straight line! He refused to give in and always had an interesting story or conversation, delivered with his wry smile and twinkle in his eye.
I feel privileged to have met Fred and known him albeit briefly . Rest in peace, keep smiling.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Fred, I had known him for a considerable number of years as a Sergeant in the Lincolnshire Police Special Constabulary. In 1974 I was posted as one of the village Constables to Coningsby and as Carrington was in my ‘patch’ I was soon introduced to Fred and as often as he was available and if I had no commitments I would pick him up and we would patrol the area together. He was a delight to be with and had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Carrington area, something I found invaluable. If ever we were sent to anything which involved us getting into a sticky situation he was alway there at my back, I couldn’t have wished for a more loyal, helpful and cheerful companion. Many a happy hour was spent in the kitchen of Fred’s home, The Beeches’ warming against the coal fired Arga and drinking tea that a spoon could be stood up in made by Fred’s mum known as Granny. I had lost touch in recent years as I was posted away on promotion but was always able to check up on his health and welfare through his daughter Vanessa. The last time I saw him was a Vanessa’s retirement ‘do’ where we reminisced for a while. Vanessa, Bobi and I are so sorry we cannot be with you on this sad day, but raise a glass on my behalf, he will be sadly missed.
Geoff.
