In loving memory of Joan Ann Halfpenny who sadly passed away on 7th September 2018.
Sadly, Joan passed away after a short fight against Cancer. It was diagnosed after the discovery of a malignant Melanoma on her leg. Subsequent investigation discovered that it had already spread to her groin (which necessitated surgery to remove lymph nodes) and further to her liver and eventually her brain in the form of Metastasis. She put up the bravest of fights and passed away in the most painless and dignified of fashions. Of course, as she was such a care-free, healthy and happy lady, this came to everyone as a complete shock and the rate at which she was consumed by the illness was breathtakingly quick.
She passed away in Maidstone Hospital, where for the final three weeks of her life, she was looked after impeccably well. Our thanks go out to all of the front-line staff who helped to make the whole ordeal more bearable for everybody concerned. She will be missed terribly by Alan and all of her friends and family.

Five years. Where did they go? I sit here typing these words and I can't express how that feels, having lived here for five years without you. We all can't! Within those five years, your community has gained new and familiar faces. Now you have two dogs to walk, and now you can do that with Kaye and Leo, who have now also recently left us. If we are to meet again, it's something I will forever look forward to. Love you! xxx

Thinking of you today. There are elements of life that puts things into perspective. The thing is, no matter how happy I might be at any time, forgetting is the worst thing I could do. I will never forget you - ever. But I need to ask you a favour. Cassey is with you now. Please look after her and take her for walks. We can both do that some day, when the time comes. Love you! xxx

Tribute to Joan
Knowing and working with Joan for well over 25 years at Eurodata was a complete honour and a delight. She emanated an aura of pure goodness, never ever saying a bad or unkind word about anyone - without exception in all those years. Joan was a patient and very well organised lady who's pragmatic skills and attention to detail were essential in the business we shared. Her handwriting was a sight to behold - neat doesn't even begin to cover it! She once told me that her father would make her re-write passages if her handwriting was poor and so that was her excuse for it always being immaculate. She was immaculate too in the elegant way she always presented herself. Joan was a true Lady (with a capital 'L').
I watched Mel and Daren grow up under her caring blanket of love, when a single Mum and we were all so happy for her when she met her soul mate, Alan. She won't mind me saying that she did revert a little to behaving like a besotted teenager when they first met and having talked to Alan on the phone, would replace the handset with a contented sigh of adoration! Alan was equally in love with Joan and they truly made a perfect couple, working on their new home together with Alan's impressive practical skills that we mere mortals hold in awe - she always came to work with a smile on her face, proud to tell us what amazing achievements Alan had made.
We all greatly missed Joan's company when she retired and she was simply irreplaceable - the calmness and respect that she gave and received in equal measure were never even approached by others. My advice (having been through this personally) is to look back on all the healthy, happy times you spent together and be grateful for what you had with Joan, cherish all the wonderful memories and try not to be sad for who knows what might have been in the future.
Our thoughts are with all the family, who, like us, were blessed to have had this very special Lady as a Mum, Wife or friend.

Thank you for your tribute John. It's really lovely to read an insight of times when Joan met Alan as unfortunately I hadn't met Daren until later. She was just the best Mother-in-Law anyone could ever have wished for and I really thank my lucky stars she could not have welcomed me and my two girls into Daren's family. It was nice to meet you albeit brief, thank you for kind words.
