Bob Whatling (16 Jan 1948 - 17 Jun 2018)

Rick and I send our heartfelt condolences for the loss of Bob. He was one of the most kind , gentle souls and I am so glad we became friends. His memory will be cherished and again, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Kathy and Rick

I have known Bob for some 58 years. We met and became good friends when I
joined Bloomfield Secondary School in Plumstead in the 2nd year (now referred
to as Year 12).

Bob (regularly referred by myself as AJRW) had an incredible memory. He
would recall incidents and people from those early days with ease whereas I
would struggle and still do.

Whilst we were good friends, there sometimes comes a point in the early days
of raising one’s family when mutual contact slackens and only gets renewed a
few years later. So it was with AJRW and I.

A devoted family man, Bob’s life was hit by two tragedies: the unexpected,
sudden death of his wife Pearl (another friend from our early years) which
affected him badly.

The second major tragedy was the diagnosis of his pancreatic cancer.

His strength of character was such that outwardly he faced this challenge with
courage and dignity. The support he received from Ann and “his girls” was
incredible to the very end .

A dear friend lost too soon but who will be remembered forever.

Wonderful, kind, genuine, friendly, happy Bob, thank you for being so lovely and an incredible role model to my James. X

I had the privilege and honour to have known Bob for only 11months but in that short time I quickly realised what a great man he was. I only got to know Bob during his illness but it was obvious he had so many fantastic qualities as a Father and family man and was loved by everyone who knew him. Traditional values with a fun and cheeky side to his Character, which I can only wish I could have enjoyed for longer. His love for his family was obvious and my respect for Bob as a lovely kind man grew every time I saw him and he always had a kind smile for me and shook my hand despite the battle he was fighting. Rest in peace Bob in the knowledge your precious Nicky will be loved and cherished as you would wish. With Love and my fondest memories Ricky ❤️

At side times like this - we must give thanks for the life of Bob, we are on this earth for a fleeting moment in time and must endure every day is lived to the full. Let us remember the promise of God that one day we will be reunited again - what a promise -God Bless Ann and the family xx
