I met Tony Gunter Smith in 1958. I was seven and taken for a treat to Renfrew Airport. It was there the Sabre Jets and CF-100s were serviced. There were five of us sitting in the canteen. He came up to us and asked us if we were spotters. He was dressed in a smooth blue number 2 and a flying jacket with forage cap. He went off. He came back with five paper tubes and inside were coloured pictures of Sabres or CF-100s. In 1959 at Abbotsinch he demonstrated aerobatics in a CF-100 at the Battle of Britain Display. We were so saddened to hear of his passing RIP.

Sadly I never got to know my Uncle Tony as much as I would have liked. Of the times we did spend together, he was an amazingly kind and warm man who always reminded me of my father, Noel, Tony's brother. Rest in peace. Much love. Andrew

  • We will remember our Uncle Tony with much love and affection. He was a true English gentleman, and his passing is a great loss to us. Always in our hearts......Pam and Linda, your Canadian nieces.

  • I would love to get in touch. I realise this was a long time ago - but I am researching and writing my mum and dad's history and Tony was a part - a big part - of their story. Can I get in touch with anyone in your family who would know? Obviously after all of this time this might look like a scam or something. Email me back and I'll tell you all about it...AnneMDiamond
