I knew Val as a colleague at the University of Derby for a number of years. She made me laugh wither dry sense of humour and was one very brav, stronge woman. Rest in peace Val. Bless you.

Chris and Val were the perfect partnership which was tested in the heat of two serious illnesses. Throughout their love grew stronger and Chris now has to keep going on memories. However, Val was so strong that she will never go away or stop giving him advice on what to do next.

So sad to hear of Val's death. I first met her in the late 1970's when I was administrator at St Crispin Hospital, Northampton,

Val had just got her SRN in Hastings and had joined a one year nurse training course for her RMN

This group were unhappy at lots of nursing practices and said what they felt. Chris arranged for me to meet this feisty young nurse . She told me in no uncertain terms what she felt about some nurse managers.and we remained friends ever since.

Valerie was a very special lady who dealt with her hand of cards with great strength and fortitude .
Valerie told me how determined she was to be a nurse , starting her training at the age of 16. Over the years I heard of her different experiences in the profession different hospitals different departments but always the same dedication shone through.
Valerie Gillespie not only a model professional but the perfect wife for Chris .
We will miss you
Rest in Peace
