In loving memory of Matthew Chapman who sadly passed away on 30th August 2016

Matt was born on 10th February 1971 at home in Marks Gate, he was the youngest of four children, he was always tall and just about fitted into his crib as a new born. Growing up Matt took great delight in tormenting his older brothers, being the youngest he was obviously spoilt and was the apple of his mum’s eye. She took him to play football every week in all weathers until he realised that his skills lay elsewhere so she then took him cricket every week for many years. He left home at 18 to make his own way in the world.

Matt was passionate about his work and approached it with lots of energy and commitment, he had a very succesful career spending 29 years in the print industry; with 11 years in pre-press before moving into operations working for companies such as TSO (The Stationary Office), Capita, Pitney Bowes and finally as Head of operations at Vital Communications by Office Depot. Matt made many lifelong friends during his working career, most of which started in the nearest pub.

Matt loved sport with his two favourites being cricket and football, he played for Chadwell Heath cricket club during his teenage years. He was an ardent West Ham United supporter since he was taken to his first game at the age of 6 by his brother Garry (at that time they needed all the supporters that they could get) and he was hooked for life. He went to watch them home and away for many years as well as following England home and abroad. He took his son Alex to his first game which was the last season at the Boleyn ground as he wanted him to experience the Upton Park atmosphere and become a true west ham fan like him.

Matt was a loving Husband, Son, Brother and Uncle who always took the time to make sure that everyone was OK, he visited his mum on a weekly basis and was always interested in how and what each niece/nephew were doing in their lives.

Matt met Jo in 1996 in the offices of TSO, she soon became the love of his life, they married in 2007 in Canterbury and lived in Whitstable before moving to their dream home in Swindon in 2014. They have two beautiful children, Rihanna who is 8 and Alex who is 5. Matt loved his family so very much and missed them terribly when he worked away from home. He would phone home every night to speak to them and he would often sing them one of his favourite songs “I’m already there”

Shocked and saddened about this terrible news. Only known Matt since about 2010 as work colleagues and then later as friends. Matt was a great man who was brilliant at his job, he was also a good friend and very much a family man. Enjoyed the time we shared together with our families. The thoughts of myself, Helen, Will and Sam are with Jo, Rihanna and Alex

Matt showed me around when I first joined HMSO / TSO in May '96 - seemed like a nice chap! - many laughs followed in the next few years, especially with his good friend Gary Foley...those times will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace old friend.

We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing away of Matt and we would like to express our most sincere sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues during this sad and difficult time. Matt was a lovely, kind and wonderful man to deal with, he was extremely knowledgeable, passionate and highly respected amongst his peers, clients and suppliers alike . Although we only had the pleasure of working with Matt for the past 12 months, he was a really genuine guy that made you feel we were all part of the same team and was a pleasure to work with.

We can honestly say that Matt will be sorely be missed by everyone that knew him.

I had never met Matt before joining Vital, although I was already aware of him within the industry - a big guy - a big presence. He convinced me to join Vital and I still don't hold this against him.
A fountain of knowledge, a nice guy - his only failing, poor choice in football club!
He will be missed by many.
