In loving memory of Paul James Muldowney who sadly passed away on 16th June 2016

Those of your who knew Dad know how amazingly talented he was. "ANY" DIY project was well within his capabilities. I have spent most of my life in awe of his accomplishments and the confidence he had in getting something done. To this day I am outraged that none of this ability was passed down to me !
Nothing was a mystery be it electrical, mechanical, crafting in wood and metal or just repair.

He had many interests ranging from computers, photography to gardening. He played the guitar and I used to love just listening to him and see the look on concentration. I'm sure he enjoyed the actual playing but it never really worked its way to show on his face. He always said he was tone deaf but I was never sure as he had a very good ear for music. (I'm sure I have not included a truck load of other interests that he had)

Dad was so talented and always dealt with new challenges alone to learn how to do it ! Unfortunately once learned he couldn't see why anyone else couldn't do it :)
I was not a quick student when being shown something and Dad was not a patient tutor which lead to some lively debate but never changed my view of him that deep down I had nothing but love and respect to this wonderful man.

His employment career was indeed varied from driving lorries, working with steel fabrication, Car mechanic, MOD to Crime Scene Cleaner. All of which he undertook with professionalism, a meticulous eye for detail and a macabre sense of humour. I am proud to say that the humour passed to me and lives on in my children also :)

I still learn more and more about my Dad each day from the different people I speak with and I'm still surprised by what I hear.

For years Dad has had no interest in football and wouldn't care if the game was banned worldwide, but I heard from a friend (that he knew since the age of 12) that during their time together dad played football and would head any ball that was passed to him regardless of weather, ball construction or distance earning him the nick name of "Granite Head" he showed no fear and unfortunately no aptitude to the game which I think lead to his outlook on the game later on in life. If he was not very good at something then it was not worth his continued efforts, he wanted to be the best at what he did. He would only ever judge his own ability against what he believed he should be capable of, his standards were very high.

For Dee who passed £10 to me at the funeral, with many thanks.

  • What a fine figure of a man Grandad Jim (far left) was. Dad (on the horse) looks strangely at home on the horse.
