In loving memory of Peter Henry Turner (1930-2016) who sadly passed away on 13th June 2016

Peter was born in 1930 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. He was the top of his class at Wolstanton Grammar School , and then went on to Durham University where he read History and Economics. He was too young for service in WWll, but he completed his two years national service in the Royal Army Pay Corps. He worked as an accountant for the Midland Bank (now HSBC) and unusually he worked for this one employer his whole career.

Outside of work Peter was:

a photographer - (recording practically all of rural England)

a musician - (1st and 2nd violin for local orchestras)

a gardener - (large garden at home with carefully considered planting schemes

a walker - (all over the UK)

a botanist - (particularly wild flowers)

an ornithologist - (even while driving the car)

a collector – (particularly of ornaments reflecting his interest in the natural world).

Perhaps most importantly:

Always a giver and never a taker

Dear Peter we are all going to miss you, you were always cheerful and always stopped for a chat very friendly man that you were and often seen gardening in all weathers to keep the gardens looking nice. Have known you for over 49 years growing up with Anne and playing tennis in the road all those years ago before everyone had cars, going to church with both you and Christine and being in the choir with Anne such fond memories of you as well in the choir and playing your violin it was a pleasure to know such a gentleman xxxxx

I'm going to miss you Peter. You have been a wonderful neighbour - polite, friendly and always willing to have a chat. You have made both of us feel very welcome to the area. I'm glad that even thigh we knew you for a short time we were able to enjoy times with our lovely neighbours at Christmas, your birthday and Easter. Sad that I never really got to say bye to you.

To my dear brother, Peter. I have loved you all my life and will miss you. You will always be in my thoughts. I remember we had lots of laughs together and, as children, you always made me play football with you promising me a penny a goal with you as goal keeper......I'm still waiting for my penny! Lots of love, miss you Ruth xxxxx

Sincere condolences. Such sad news. Uncle Peter was a lovely man and I remember him enthusiastically 'rounding' us up for family photographs on many occasions. One time, whilst keeping his eye closely on the lens, he tripped over a stone, stumbled backwards then very quickly re-focused....as always, the photograph was perfect and Uncle Peter had entertained us all at the same time. Lots of love, Barbara xxxx

As new neighbours (3 years), on the few occasions that we met we found Peter very polite and obviously were sorry to hear of his death.
