Remembering Bette
My amazing mum, Bette McAllister, was unexpectedly taken from us on 12th October 2026. She will be missed more than words can say, especially by her grandchildren, James and Sophie, who she adored.
Mum had a wicked sense of humour and a heart full of kindness. She loved a liquid lunch, and she greeted family, friends and complete strangers alike with a cheery “me darlin’”.
Mum grew up in a strict Belfast convent, and she did rather well for herself after that. She met the love of her life at 20 – her own Jimmy Mac. They lived a nomadic life together in England before (quite by accident!) having me. They never stopped having their wee adventures, whether on a motorbike excursion or on a trip to Herne Bay.
My dad died 21 years ago. In his honour, Mum set off on a wonderful run of adventures: Australia, Kenya, China, Malaysia, Borneo, California, Las Vegas, New York, Jordan and Dubai. She also took a wee tour across her beloved Glens of Antrim. Mum never turned down an adventure.
Funeral Arrangements
I’d love for you to join us for mum’s funeral at Medway Crematorium on the 16th November at 12:30pm. Following the service from 1:30pm, we will be celebrating her life and raising a glass at The George Pub, City Way, Rochester, ME1 2BH – all are welcome. Food, booze, teas, coffees and soft drinks will be available.
Instead of flowers, a better way to honour my Mum would be to buy a bottle of the good stuff (whatever your favourite tipple may be) and raise a toast to her. She’d certainly approve! If you’d rather give something, you can donate to the RSPCA using the link on this page. Mum loved her dogs and cats, and the terrapins, parrots and other pets that filled our Shorts Way zoo!
So I can plan the catering at The George, please let me know if you’ll be there. You can contact me on 07875 398503 or email me at sean.mcallister@zurich.com.
Many thanks
Sean (Bette’s son)
