In Loving Memory of Alan -
Alan was born in Castle Donnington in July 1944 to Amy and Sid Rookard. They later moved to Brentwood, from where as a lad Alan had a bird’s eye view of the local railway station. This ignited Alan’s enthusiasm for trains which continued throughout his life.
Alan had a number of jobs before becoming a Clerical Officer in the Post Office. It was during this time, Alan joined the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in London. Apart from the lifelong friendships that were formed, notably "The Gang", he met the girl who was to transform his future and become his wife. Pam and Alan married in May 1978 and finally settled in Crayford, Kent. They spent many happy years cruising the world together until ill health intervened. Alan kept himself occupied though by researching his family history and became an avid coin collector. Alan also still liked meeting up with "The Gang" and enjoyed chatting about the old days over a cold beer and juicy steak.
Alan sadly passed away peacefully on 19 September 2026 with his loving wife Pam by his side. A celebration of Alan’s life will take place at Eltham Crematorium. Pam invites you to attend and to feel free to wear colour instead of the traditional black clothing.
A live stream of the service will be available if you cannot attend – please contact Merrilyn for details.
Pam has requested that in lieu of flowers, any donations in memory of Alan would be gratefully welcome to two charities that were close to both their hearts – details are available on the Just Giving page.
