In loving memory of Richard Wells who sadly passed away on 3rd September 2026. Richard was born in Sheffield on 11th February 1949, the son of John and Marianne Wells. He was brother to sisters Julia and Angela. Richard’s school days were spent at Wellingborough School before studying Chemistry at University of East Anglia. Richard spent his early years in sales for the tanning and leather industry, then for Henkel before retraining in computer programming and beginning a career in software development and engineering. Richard enjoyed travelling extensively across the globe in his early career. Richard was married twice, first to Margaret and latterly to Mary, in the late 1970s, becoming step father to Catherine and Yvonne. He was delighted to become a grandad 'Bumpa' in 1992, to Abbigael, who is adored. Sadly Richard’s sister Angela passed away in 2004 leaving her husband Richard and sons Michael and Andrew. Richard’s older sister Julia, still lives in Australia after emigrating in 1968 as a £10 Pom. Julia has two boys John and Peter both living in Australia with their families. Richard was very proud and fond of his nephews.
After initially working at British Aerospace in Brough, Richard moved to Rolls-Royce in Derby working in the Control Systems Engineering Department in the mid 1990s. Richard lived the rest of his life in Derby becoming ill with COPD in his later years following his retirement. During the pandemic, Richard became anxious about going out and he lived his last few years at home, looking forward to visitors from time to time and was happy to become a Great Grandad 'Bumpa' to Alzari in 2022. Richard was loved and will be missed by all his family, friends and neighbours.
Richard’s life will be celebrated at Trent Valley Crematorium on 2nd October at 3.30pm, with people welcome to join family and friends after the service at The Malt, Aston-on-Trent to share stories and remember Richard. Please note, funeral flowers only. Instead Richard has requested donations to support GOSH (see link) would be really welcome 🙏🏽
