In loving memory of our Dad Darren 'Daz' Maroney who sadly passed away on 21st August 2026. My Dad was one hell of a man and I know very loved by a lot of people. His smile, his humour, his kind heart and most importantly love of Chelsea will live on. I will always be proud of him. At the start of my life it was just us and he lived for being my Dad. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for everything during those years. We then welcomed my beautiful brother Alfie. He lived for him too. After unsuccessfully trying to get me into some form of sport he was very proud of Alfie and his more natural talent with that haha although proud of me finding my own goals and aspirations all the same and never failed to show up, for either of us. He always pushed for the best in us because he knew we deserved no less than that. He loved seeing us shine and would do everything he could to make sure it happened. That was our Dad. I know a lot of people have many memories with him and I know the impact he left and I would love to hear those stories and I know Alfie does too.

I first met Darren when I was age 18 in 1999 whilst on work experience from college. He “sold” me the financial services career and paved the way for me getting my first job. We then worked together on and off between 1999 and 2006 (as he left the company and then came back and I went to Uni) and we always kept in touch thereafter.

Darren was larger than life, a character in the truest sense, could tell a good tale and there was rarely a dull moment in his company. He had a warm and good heart, was generous and a very funny man.

During some challenging times in my 20s when I lost my dad, I was struggling and in the throes of meandering along aimlessly for a while - Darren would often get in touch with me for a natter and offered a lot of encouragement and provided much humour when I definitely needed it during those times.

I’ll forever remember the name Darren Maroney with a smile, a chuckle, with fondness; and with appreciation and gratitude. Thanks for the memories and of course those Stone Roses records you gave me back in 1999 which I will always treasure. RIP mate and cheers 👍🍺

PS…Whenever I hear a Big Country song, I always smile and always will 😁

Work teams call during Covid 🤣 I worked with Darren for over 10 years he was so funny, kind and caring. He was so proud of Niamh and Alfie telling everyone he could have their achievements. He was also very proud to be a Chartered Financial Planner.

  • Never a dull moment on those lockdown morning calls with Darren! Even with the world shut down, he always managed to find a way to lift our spirits. RIP Darren, my thoughts are with Alfie and Niamh at this time. He was so proud of both of you.

Daz,

Life is going to be so much quieter without your larger-than-life personality. Looking back at all our holidays, Christmases together, and our entertaining, memory making nights out, there wasn't a single time where you didn't have us all laughing.

Seeing how proud you were as a dad to Niamh and Alfie, and knowing how much pride you took in being a godfather to our children - including passing on the Chelsea tradition to your godson—showed the huge heart behind all the jokes.

Thank you for being a friend and godfather. You’ve left a hole in our hearts, Daz, but every time we share a laugh, share a story, or see our son watching Chelsea play, we’ll be remembering you.
