Margaret Sillis (16 Dec 1946 - 6 Sep 2026)

Worked with Margaret in the Mycoplasma Unit, Norwich. Never a dull moment. My boss and friend who will be dearly missed.

A remarkable lady, we will miss you.

I played badminton with Margaret and feel lucky to have met such an amazing woman.

Margaret was one of my guest lecturers in 1999 when I was studying for a Biological Sciences Degree at the UEA. She inspired me to pursue a career in Biomedical Science and I ended up working in Margaret's laboratory. She had a positive impact on so many lives.

I first saw Margaret when she was new born I have loved her and admired her throughout her remarkable life.

Margaret, funny, kind and so knowledgeable. A friend and mentor for many years. It's been a privilege to have known you. You will be greatly missed.

In memory of Margaret an amazing woman whose energy would put people a quarter of her age to shame. Always willing to help anyone. Kind extremely generous very competitive with a wicked sense of humour. Margaret will be missed so much us and everyone who knew her. It’s also a massive loss to the village of Hoxne for which she worked tirelessly.

I met Margaret on my first day at high school aged 11yrs. We went through school and college together, later becoming work colleagues. In retirement we played badminton and lunched together. She was my friend for 68 years and will be sorely missed.

I worked with Margaret for several years, both as a trainee and a consultant colleague. I am very grateful for everything that she taught me.

You will truly be missed, your guidance at technical assessments and the laughter's we shared - a true colleague and friend. You will be missed.

Lots of fond memories (of fun determination and cursing when the shuttle went out) during eight years of playing at the village hall. We will never forget.

In loving memory of our Aunty Margaret and Jack’s Great Aunty. In years gone by when we were little, she was the fun aunt at a family gathering ensuring a good time, while keeping everyone just about under control. As we got older, we were able to appreciate the fact that she was a brilliant scientist whose knowledge and wisdom were always quietly available when we needed them. Her care was often expressed in her own way: through sound advice, being there when it mattered. It is clear to us that her extraordinary contribution to her field was immense, and she will be profoundly missed by so many. We will remember her as an inspirational woman with great respect, gratitude, and much love Kate, Meri and Jack xxx

One of the founding members of the Hoxne Heritage Group, Margaret played a key role in it's ongoing success both as secretary of the Group and as an active member.
She will be sorely missed by us all.

It was always a joy to work with Margaret. Her dedication to ensuring quality in Virology and her knowledge and passion for the subject was immense. Direct , challenging but funny and warm. I will miss the stories she told. Rest in peace.

It has been a privilege and pleasure to have known and worked with Margaret for a number of years now. I first met and worked with her back in the days of CPA and then with UKAS on many assessments. Margaret was passionate about Virology and always keen to share her knowledge and experience. She was a formidable assessor but always fair and just. Margaret had a great sense of humour and we shared many and varied conversations. She will be greatly missed. R.I.P Margaret.
