I first met Joe or ‘Wardy’ as we affectionately called him in university in 1981, we shared the same university hall and we just clicked and became very good friends and also with Ben Dwamena my roommate.

Soon we were hanging out, walking to lectures and eating and studying together sharing smart ways to get by the rigorous 1st few years of Medical school academia.

After 2nd year MB exams ‘Wardy’ and the dentals left for Manchester, UK and I left with them but to London, UK for a parallel BSc course and we stayed in touch.

After a year I returned to Ghana and our paths diverged a bit but we kept in touch on and off and resumed contact when I returned to UK in 1990 and Joe and family were at my London wedding.

It remained an on and off contact thing and when we met it was as if we had never been separated.

Last year we made contact again and ‘Wardy’ was travelling a lot then and we agreed to link up when his feet were back on Uk soil. Little did I know he was soon to make a heavenly journey beyond the Uk and then I heard the sad news.

Joe your passing was more than a shock. Just when we were planning a mega reunion. It will have to be in a different place now. May the good Lord watch and receive you to his kingdom and our reunion has just been postponed but not cancelled. Till we meet again rest in the arms of the lord my friend. You have gone far too soon. Our condolences to the immediate and wider family.
RIPP ‘Wardy’!!

In Loving Memory of Dr. Joseph Adams Solomon Wardy
4 September 2026

Joseph was my friend and classmate at the University of Ghana. We were Mensah Sarbah Hall mates, fellow members of the University Christian Fellowship, and later classmates in medical school. Those shared years gave us a friendship I have treasured ever since.

After our Second MB examinations, Joseph left to train in Manchester as a dental surgeon. Our paths took different directions, but I continued to think of him as one of my university and medical school friends. We last communicated a few weeks before our September 2025 reunion. I am especially grateful now that we had that opportunity to reconnect.

I mourn Joseph’s passing and remember with gratitude the years we shared, the friendship we formed, and the conversation we had so recently. My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and all who loved him. May God comfort them and grant Joseph eternal rest.

A Nanabayin was born on the 7th June 1961 to Francis Chapman Wardy and Mrs Josephine Solomon Wardy He was the fifth child of five siblings Nanabayin had his elementary and secondary school education at Philip Quaque boys school and Mfantsipim secretary school respectively He was the last born and therefore the darling Child of our mother. A vacuum was created in his life when my mother died in 1975 whilst he was in form one in secretary school. The pain on him was so much that I had to grow up quickly to provide the leadership role that my Mum would have provided. He had an excellent grades both at the O level and A levels and proceeded to University of Ghana to study Dentistry In course of. the program the University arranged for an extensive clinical studies in UK. After completion he married his lovely wife Karen and decided to spend the whole life with her in UK until his demise. Rest in Peace and in glory my brother. Da. Yie

Joseph (JAS) and I met and became close friends in our teens through Scripture Union in the early 1970s. We were in each other's homes most of the time. We went for Bible Studies and Prayer meetings together. Indeed, we were more like brothers than friends. Even when Joseph left Ghana to continue his studies in Dentistry in the UK, we remained in contact through phone calls, whatsapp and email messages. I remember visiting him for the first time in Diss, UK and meeting Karen and April, his wonderful family in 1992. I chattered with him on 18th of August and he told me about his imminent visit to Ghana- perhaps before the end of the year. Therefore, it was a great shock when I heard about is passing just two later. My thoughts and prayers are with Karen, April, Ato and his other siblings in Ghana. Praying for God's comfort and strength at this challenging period. May he rest in peace. Naa Benyin, da yie, Nyame nfa wo nsie.
