who sadly passed away on 24th August 2026
Aged 97 years

Syd was a dearly loved dad, grandad, great-grandad and brother who will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
We will never forget his care and kindness, his ready smile and his sense of humour — always polite and dignified, a true gentleman.
Syd grew up in Rainham, Kent, where he worked alongside his father in their ladder-making, building and undertaking business. It was while living there that he met his future wife, Peggy, at the confectionery shop just a few doors away, when he went in to buy some cigarettes.
They married in 1954 at Aylesford Church and went on to share a long and happy marriage, until Peggy sadly passed away in 2021.
After several years living in Rainham, Syd and his father moved the ladder-making business to Upchurch, where Syd and Peggy raised their three daughters and made their family home.
In 2010, Syd and Peggy moved to a bungalow at Hartlip Hill, where they began a new chapter of their lives together. Sadly, a number of those years were spent without his beloved wife Peggy, but his family did all they could to be there for him.
His absence has left an enormous space in our lives, and life will never quite be the same without him,but we have a lifetime of stories, laughter and memories to carry with us.
