JOHNSTON, MARY - Died 28th August 2026. Beloved wife of the late Henry, much loved mother of Brian, Yvonne and Edwin, cherished mother-in-law of Brian and Margaret, devoted grandmother of Brian, Andrew, Emma, Stuart and Amy.
Funeral Service will be held in Whitehead Methodist Church on Thursday 3rd September at 9.30am and afterwards to Carnmoney Main Cemetery for 11am. Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired to Dementia NI c/o Stephen McCosh Funeral Directors, 117 Shankill Road, Belfast, BT13 1FD.Will be sadly missed by her loving family circle. Its only goodnight dear mother just like we used to say, well meet again in the morning at the dawn of a brighter day.

I rarely met your mother, my aunt, but the times I did I found her to be a principled and forthright woman.
My earliest and lasting memory was when May attended the London march of the Women’s Peace Movement in 1976. She stayed with us in London, and I saw a woman committed and passionate about wanting peace in Northern Ireland.
I met her a few times after that at, sadly, funerals, and remember with fondness her kind words when my father, her brother-in-law, passed away in 1985. Her passing marks the end of an era. She was the last person that linked that generation of the Johnston family to its past.
May her memory be forever blessed.
