I’ve known Shirley for many years - we were at school together - and it was always such a joy to be in her company both then and on the occasions we have met since those early days. At catch ups with school friends in recent years, Shirley always brought so much fun and laughter - we will certainly miss her.

Mike and I were so sorry to hear about Shirley. She and I met on our first day at Latymer school. She made us all feel less overwhelmed by giving us the low- down on our prospective teachers, including their nicknames, courtesy I think of her much- loved sister Jean.I remember being awed by her knowledge of literary quotations- we were only eleven! Shirley's sense of humour was a joy. She and Rowena van Houplines became such firm friends that Shirleyandrosie became one name. Together they wrote amusing little poems about school events in a little notebook that was always kept to hand but rarely displayed.
Shirley's wit and sense of fun are legendary but it is her warmth and kindness and her perceptivenessof other's situations that I will remember. As adults we didn't meet often but when we did, conversation was as easy as when we were teenagers at the horse of the year show.
Our last meeting was at one of the occasional get togethers of our little group of schoolfriends, by then in our seventies. An afternoon of laughter, caring and friendship - just like Shirley herself.

So very sad to hear this news about Shirley. We were connected via the Cinnamon Trust as I was a volunteer dog walker for them. I walked little Hickory twice a week for her for about 18months and loved my doorstep conversations with Shirley. Such a bright and intelligent lady. Rest in peace Shirley. Lynn x
