I first met Peter over 40 ago when our gardens backed on to each other in Dunstable. The friendship developed when Peter walked his two West Highland terriers ‘Sandy’ and ‘Robbie’ past the frown of our house where they would scrabble at the gate to ‘make friends’ with our Cocker Spaniels. Peter and Margery worshipped the two ‘boys’ as they did with all wildlife.
Peter was never happier than when walking around his garden and sharing his interest in all things horticultural. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects but his special love was alpines and cyclamen in particular, an interest we shared.he lit up when in their presence and his knowledge was compendious.
Anyone who knew Peter, knew a kind, gentle and wise man. He was entertaining and fun to spend time with. He was devoted to Margery and could not do enough to keep her happy and I know have devastated he was at her passing. I will always remember Peter with great fondness as a man who only. saw the good in everything. Rest in peace Peter.
Your old friend,
John

In loving memory of Peter Charles Jones who sadly passed away on 31st July 2026. Peter was a true gentleman: unfailingly courteous, quietly humorous, impeccably mannered and always interested in the world around him. His long life encompassed wartime evacuation, National Service in the Royal Air Force, a distinguished long career as a draughtsman and a lifelong fascination with aviation. Peter possessed an extraordinary memory for aircraft and their registration numbers, and he was a long time member of the cyclamen society. Peter, happily married to Margery for over 60 years until she passed in 2019, was a kind neighbour and a treasured friend whose gentle nature, intelligence and old-fashioned courtesy will be remembered with great affection. He died on 31 July 2026, aged 94, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
