In loving memory of Oliver Matias who sadly passed away on 8th July 2026.

The burial will be a private Thanksgiving for Oliver's life, and will be for family-members only.

At the time of his death, Oliver was striving, working full time at Nottingham University in stroke research, completing an MA in yoga studies at SOAS & finishing his MPhil in self harm & suicide in males at City St. George's University. As a member of the London Buddhist Centre, he completed his Mitra studies and also practiced yoga for over 10 years.

We ask you please to not send flowers, but rather donate to our chosen Charity, Framework. We have chosen Framework because Oliver was always so generous and a great supporter of all vulnerable people. Framework is a regional homeless charity that offers a holistic approach offering: employment skills, services for substance use issues, detox unit, crisis sanctuaries as well as wellness of mind in partnership with the NHS.

We as a family are comforted by the knowledge that Oliver has found Eternal Peace.

May all sentient beings be endowed with happiness. May they all be separated from suffering and its causes. May they be endowed with joy, free from suffering. May they abide in equanimity, free from attachment or aversion.

Ollie,

It is difficult to put into words the heartbreak I felt when I heard of your passing.

You always welcomed me with a hug, a smile and good conversation. I will always remember the times we spent together with Nannie, your mum and Grace, sitting around the dining table either laughing or debating while eating some of the delicious food. Those moments around that table are memories I will hold on to.

From all the messages and correspondence your mum has received, it is clear that you lived your life in a way that so many of us aspire to. You were kind, caring and thoughtful, not simply through your words, but through your actions. You gave your time, your compassion and yourself to helping others, and in doing so, you made a real difference to so many people's lives.

Perhaps most remarkably, you spent so much of your life trying to ease the suffering of others, even while carrying suffering of your own. That says so much about the person you were.

You leave behind a beautiful legacy: not only in the memories of those who knew and loved you, but in the lives you touched and the people you helped. I feel incredibly fortunate to have shared those moments with you.

You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Love, Brett

Oliver during his life developed a 'divine' vision - St. Thomas Aquinas describes the situation as thus:

Those who obtain ultimate happiness from the divine vision never fall away from it, because whatever at one time is, and another time is not, is measured by time. Now the vision in question is not in time, but in eternity. No one having once partaken thereof, can lose it.

Oliver saw the vision and obtained eternity.

With love from, Nannie xxx

Dear Ollie,
A quote from the Yoga Sutras for you:

‘In realising the oneness of life and death, this frees him from afflictions and sorrows, and he lives forever in the flow of tranquility.’

Since your passing mate. I think of you daily. Your friendly countenance towards me and so many others. You were wise beyond your years and so kind in your nature. Will miss you in this world but as you were into Buddhism wishing you will find the peace and tranquility in the next you so richly deserve. X

Just a perfect day!A day I will never forget.I cannot believe my beautifully unique son Oliver has gone.
But I still feel him in the wind, the warmth of the sun and I will feel him in the rain when it comes!I see him in the beauty of flowers, trees, birds and the animals he so loved.I will remember him when I look at the moon which he loved to watch.
I can now see that although Oliver's life with us was so short it had great purpose and meaning. It is clear that he had an impact on the lives of many from the messages I have received.
I am so grateful for all your comments and donations.
We as a family find great comfort from this, together with the knowledge that he has now found Eternal Peace.

Oliver, I’m so terribly sad and sorry that you were in such pain and that you’re no longer with us. We sat and remembered you today, in the park, and talked about what an amazing and special person you were. I can’t believe you’re gone, but I’m glad that you’re at peace and free. You touched many people’s lives in your time with us and gave so much energy, passion and calm deep thoughtfulness to everything you did. With much love. Rest in peace Oliver xxx
