We've also known Jean and Peter Moth for many years
as they were good friends of our family. I remember Jean
inviting us around to Jean's birthday celebrations at their
home in Sunningdale decades ago and she would treat
us to all those wonderful cream cakes, cups of tea etc.
not forgetting the games of monopoly we used to play.

Fond memories of them both...

My step grandmother was a neighbour of Jean and Peter in Sunningdale and, as she grew older, she came to rely on their help more and more.
We would often visit on our way down to my husband’s constituency in Dorset, and our children would be spoilt with lovely teas, presents and Easter egg hunts in Granny Vi’s home.

When Jean and Peter moved to the Southampton area we would visit from our home in Wimborne and have fond memories of Jean’s sponge cakes, meringues and roast potatoes. She had a mischievous sense of humour which meant that laughter and giggles permeated our time together.

Peter was her rock and she was not the same person after he died. As a family we miss them both because they were so much a part of our children’s childhood. May she rest in peace.’

  • Aunty Jean will be dearly missed. So many fond memories of her and Uncle Peter as myself, Greg & Graham growing up and followed through with Alex & Katherine growing up. Her roasties were the best, accompanied by her amazing gravy, followed by her melt in the mouth meringues! Ever generous, always with a smile and has left us with such happy memories that will live on . Sleep well Aunty Jean xxx

To Jean, you'll be missed by many, and for many reasons. For us, we'll miss the quick wit, infectious laughter, unassuming nature and huge generosity. Rest in peace.

Such fond memories of 'Aunt & Uncle' Jean and Peter! Visiting them growing up with my mother. . chicken kiev served (as requested once by me and forever more my favourite), being taken by Peter to the drinks cupboard an having an array of fizzy drinks to choose from - favourite being Apple Tango! Incredible roast potatoes, out of this world gravy (always stirred in the roasting tray on the top of the oven bubbling away just before serving. Then a James Bond film (while the adults chatted), and not forgetting the hugely exciting 'find the pound coins hidden around the house'! Always brand new and shiny I think Peter started my love for stationery! I was always allowed to take my pick from his overflowing supplies ! .... a wonderful couple, incredibly kind and generous. They will be missed hugely X X

  • How lovely to hear that it wasn't just me who thought Jeans gravy was the best in the world. As a child I thought every visit was like Christmas and Jeans love of children was legendary. Thanks for your lovely comments Annabel. God Bless Auntie Jean and Uncle Peter.

Jean was such a dear friend and someone I have enjoyed much laughter and happiness with for over 70 years. Jean was my chief bridesmaid in 1955 and together with her late husband Peter we shared so many happy memories together. We will remember her always as a smiling and lovely friend. God Bless Jean.

Jean was everything I aspire to be: her sharp wit, her sense of humour, and her commitment to chocolate. She will be sorely missed.
