John Edwin Anderson sadly passed away on 17th June 2026, aged 76 years.

John was born on 9th November 1949 in Medway to his Scottish parents, Edwin and Kathleen. From a young age, John developed a lifelong love of Gillingham Football Club, and he and his wife, Jillian, proudly held season tickets for many years. John could often be found on the terraces supporting his beloved team.

John spent much of his life living in Medway until 1990, when he and his family moved to Scotland for five years. This reflected John’s deep love of Scotland, wildlife, and the countryside. Scotland always held a special place in his heart, particularly Findhorn, a village where John and Jillian enjoyed many happy holidays together.

John was also a keen sportsman and enjoyed playing rugby and cricket. He had a great passion for Labradors, which grew over the years alongside Jillian. Together, they bred their own litters and attended many dog shows, including Crufts, where they made many friends from around the country, which John loved.

In 2013, following retirement, John and Jillian moved from Medway to Bicester. This allowed them to continue enjoying trips to Scotland and visiting dog shows with Magnus, Eddie, Brodie and Vinny whenever they were able.

John will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jillian Anderson, his daughters Claire and Charlotte, and his grandchildren Robert, Charlie, Sam, Olivia, and Isla. He will also be remembered for his love of Gillingham Football Club, Scotland, Labradors, Crufts, and all the dogs who brought him so much joy throughout his life.

Rather than floral tributes, John’s family would welcome donations in his memory to The Wisdom Hospice, to support funding for a syringe driver, or to The Lewy Body Society. Donations can be made online via this site.

John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

we had some good times, did we not john. myself and john, jill, and her mum, went many times together, to see the gills. we went to both, the play-off finals at wembley, which was a very proud time for john. i swear he had a tear in his eye, when the gills and manchester city, walked onto the pitch, prior to kick off. i have so many tales, about our friendship, i could write a book.we first met, with our mutual love of labradors. and so with the gills, dog shows etc,and our trips to the pub, we spent quite a lot of time together, along with jill.we had so much fun.john my old buddy, i will always love and miss you. youre mate, dave.
