Jonathan Richard George (11 Sep 1948 - 3 Jun 2026)

I was so shocked and sad to hear that Jon had died. He was my cousin. Our Dads were brothers. Because of the distance between homes, my sister Susan and I didn’t see him much when we were growing up. Our visits to see our other cousins Peter and Stephen and family in Liverpool rarely coincided with Jon’s visits with his parents and brother Tim but as adults Jon and I kept in touch.
Over the years when any combination of my family -parents, great-nephews and I were in Minehead, Jon would try and arrange to be in Bridgwater to come and see us.
Although Jon was a busy person and had a lot of activities and hobbies himself, he always took an interest in other people’s. He regularly sent encouraging messages about my football team’s performance and results. It was a shock to realise that we had not been in touch since the end of April, when he told me he’d read a good article about Brentford and that he intended posting to me.

I am so sad to think that I won’t see him again or receive his messages about so many things, especially about any photos I sent to him and of course about my team - Jon was the only person to send positive comments.
I will miss him.

Jon was a cousin who I have known all my life, and have very happy memories from our childhood. In adult life we kept in touch and did meet up from time to time, but lived far from each other and both had busy lives.

Jon’s father was my mother’s brother and part of a family of 5 siblings. Although we lived in Liverpool and Jon and Tim lived in Bridgewater we formed a close bond with them and my cousins Susan and Barbara who lived in London.

It is sad to think I shall never see Jon again but at least he will be reunited with his brother Tim and I will have my fond memories of a gentle and caring man.

I have only known Jon for a few years through events at the Wolverhampton Society of Artists. I did a talk at his request at his photo club a while back. He was a gentle, kind and thoughtful man and his passing so suddenly is such sad news.

I will miss John at our various art meetings, a character who was both interesting and a pleasure to talk to.

My sincerest condolences to Jon's family. I miss my dear friend and it will not be the same at bantock cafe where I can now not anticipate him calling in for a cuppa and a chat, Ali
