In loving memory of Chris Arnold who sadly passed away on 6th June 2026.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christine, known and loved by all as Chris. A devoted mother, cherished nan, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, Chris was immensely proud of her daughter’s, family and her extended family of nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Chris was born on 21st April 1946 in Chatham, Kent, the third of four children born to her loving parents, Jess and Alf Gravenell. She enjoyed close and treasured relationships with all of her siblings throughout her life and valued those family bonds deeply.
At the age of 19, Chris married Ivan and went on to have two daughters. She shared many happy times with her family, enjoying travel, theatre trips, and music concerts. She was also especially close to her daughter-in-law, whom she affectionately referred to as her “adopted daughter.”
One of the greatest joys of Chris’s life was becoming a grandmother. In 2015, she was delighted to welcome her grandson into the world and loved him unconditionally from the very beginning. She treasured the time they spent together each week and took immense pride in watching him grow.
Chris was a hardworking and independent woman who enjoyed a long career in retail. Over the years she worked in a variety of roles, most recently at Superdrug and ASDA in Chatham. Through her work she made many lasting friendships, and she remained in touch with many of her former colleagues after retirement.
For the last fifteen years of her life, Chris lived at Foord’s Almshouses in Rochester, where she enjoyed beautiful views of the River Medway from her garden. She was very happy there, building a wide circle of friends and maintaining an active and sociable life within the community.
Chris will be remembered for her warmth, infectious laughter, and zest for life. She loved music and dancing, had a lifelong admiration for Elvis Presley, and never lost her fondness for Chinese food and the occasional Bacardi or Malibu and Coke. Above all, she will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and friends.
Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
