In loving memory of Shirley Anne Fifield who sadly passed away on 24th May 2026, aged 63
Shirley grew up in Chatham, spending many of her childhood summers in Ireland. Some of her happiest memories were made there, exploring the countryside and farms with her brother Stephen, enjoying the freedom and adventure of being outdoors. She loved Irish dancing as a child, a passion she carried throughout her life, even returning to adult classes many years later.
At the age of 16, Shirley moved in with Peter’s parents, beginning a lifelong partnership with the love of her life. Shirley and Peter met while working together at Facit in 1979, both just sixteen years old. Their love story spanned nearly five decades, and they married in 1986, building a life centred around love, loyalty and family.
Together they raised three children, Daniel, Katie and Hannah, who were the pride and joy of her life. Shirley chose to dedicate herself to bringing up her family, creating a warm and loving home and always putting others before herself. Her family grew to include seven beloved grandchildren – Charlie, Ruby, Arthur, Harry, Louis, Olivia and Ted – each of whom she adored. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Shirley was known for her wisdom and common sense. She always seemed to know the answer to everything. Her family often turned to her for advice, guidance and reassurance, knowing they could rely on her steady presence and practical wisdom.
In the final years of her life, Shirley moved into a section of Katie’s new home. In a remarkable twist of fate, the house happened to be the very one she had cleaned as a cleaner some twenty-five years earlier and had always admired. Every morning she woke to a beautiful view she had dreamed of for many years, and it brought her immense happiness to finally call it home.
As Shirley became more unwell, she spent increasing amounts of time at home, surrounded by the people she loved most. Family meant everything to her, and in return she was deeply loved by them all. Being close to her husband, children and grandchildren was all she could ever have wanted.
Shirley will be remembered for her wisdom, her strength, her devotion to her family, and the love she gave so freely throughout her life. She leaves behind her husband Peter, her children Daniel, Katie and Hannah, her seven cherished grandchildren, and countless family members and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
