In loving memory of Doreen Marian Allsupp who sadly passed away on 12th May 2026.

Born in Hadleigh in 1937, Doreen grew up in Chelmsford, where her parents moved during the war, and she loved playing in the arable fields next to her home. At the age of ten, she had the first of several beloved dogs.

After leaving school, Doreen moved to Westcliff-on-Sea and trained as a librarian, initially based at Leigh. She rose to the challenge of being asked to set up a proper Children's Library in Leigh. By 1978, Doreen had become Divisional Children's Schools Librarian for Young People and Education. Latterly, Doreen became Operations Manager of several libraries in the area.

Doreen had a real zest for life and the world in general and enjoyed many outdoors' activities, including gardening, sailing both dinghies and larger boats, camping, and travelling and making friends around the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Doreen had a very strong faith and was an active member of Leigh Road Baptist Church for many years, making friends wherever she went.

Doreen will be greatly missed by all who knew her, both friends and family.

If you would like to attend her Thanksgiving Service at Leigh Road Baptist Church on Friday, 3 July, at 12noon, do please wear something colourful as Doreen loved colours, especially those in her garden.

Already miss my dear, dear friend so terribly.
I got to know her on a Swiss campsite, early eighties. Unexpectedly, it had snowed that night. My parents and I had a caravan, Shirley and Doreen were shivering in their tent. My parents invited them in to get warm. Later that week I, speaking German, accompanied them to the dentist, when Doreen woke up with an abcess. The beginning of a very long and very warm friendship.
For years and years I would join them on their holidays across the UK, which instilled in me a great love for this beautiful country. So much laughter, so many good conversations. They visited us in The Netherlands and in Germany, after I had moved there.
315 Westbourne Grove was my second home.
Last November was my last visit, together with my Dutch (female) friend Willy. Incredibly sunny and warm days dor November. Doreen frail, but still so very much Doreen: interested, warm and witty.
We went on the Piertrain and had a meal down at the end of the Pier. We admired the Remembrance poppies and were moved by the stories about the soldiers, we sat in the warm sun. A great day out.
In the taxi to the train back to the Netherlands, Willy and I cried our eyes out. Would we see her again?
We would not...
Rest in peace, my dear friend.
I miss you so very, very much.
